re: CB Janzen Jackson Update (2/01): He talks about his Bama visit
Geez....This guy likes to hit people. One of the most impressive CB highlight films I've seen. I would not want to be a WR going over the middle with this guy, Woodson, and Barron patrolling the neighborhood.

My head tells me he sticks with LSU...but he says he's gonna give us a shot and it looks like we can at least get an official visit...
I think the important thing with the Jacksons of the world, like so many other big-time kids, is that our staff is relentless in their efforts to recruit them, even after they commit to another school. It does not matter what the circumstances are with regard to commitment to another school, our coaches stay on them and do not stop until signing day. Atchinson and Montez Robinson have said similar things about our staff after they made their commitments...and it's playing a big factor in our chances to land them before NSD. Our staff is to be commended for their year-round, all-day approach to recruiting elite athletes. It's a great time to be a Bama fan.

re: CB Janzen Jackson Update (2/01): He talks about his Bama visit
Jackson has actually been looking at us for a while right now, so I don't think his visit is any real shock.
And yes, we probably have a legitimate shot at him, but I do believe he'll end up staying at LSU. I think this is just one of those situations that we have so much to offer right now that you would really have to be an idiot not to at least check us out if we are showing some legitimate interest.
However, I will say that I really do wonder exactly how he would fit in here. We already have a commitment at cornerback from Gerald West, and Dre Kirkpatrick is on the way. I don't really see us having the room for four cornerback prospects, so Jackson would be vying for the third spot with guys like Eric Gordon and others. With that in mind, I'm not really sure how he would fit there... he may be the highest remaining corner on our board sans Kirkpatrick, but then again he might have guys in front of him, so I'm not sure how it will all play out if he wants to commit to Alabama. My gut instinct tells me he is either the top prospect left (not named Dre Kirkpatrick) or that it would be on a first-come first-serve basis, but perhaps not.
Either way, I imagine he will sign with LSU in the end, so it will all be a moot point. As terrible as their secondary has been this year, he could very easily start there as a true freshman, and regardless of all of the other considerations that go into the equation that alone will be very difficult for us to overcome because we will unlikely be able to offer the same thing.

He'll stick with LSU.

re: CB Janzen Jackson Update (2/01): He talks about his Bama visit
The way this year has gone I think that we have a real shot at a lot of quality players, including Jackson, and it seems more every day.
It is a matter of choosing those parts that fit the team best and CNS is the guy to do it. I am with others in thinking that we are full up at his position so his visit will be one that serves notice in LA that Bama is back in the game.

I don't think it would be a problem at all where he would fit in...he'd be on nearly all the special teams from the day he stepped on campus. There's not many guys at CB that can lay the wood like this kid. He'd find a niche pretty quickly in our defense.
However, I agree that it's not even really worth discussing...it would be a huge surprise if he went anywhere but Corndog country.

Anyone heard any news on Janzen lately?
He's still visiting as far as I know.

I think it's obvious as to where he'd receive better coaching but , I'm another who doesn't see him bolting .

re: CB Janzen Jackson Update (2/01): He talks about his Bama visit
Some people down this way are getting pretty worried over Jackson. As much as Les Miles goes nuts over commitments taking official visits elsewhere -- especially to Alabama of all places -- the mere fact that Jackson is still planning on taking an official visit to Alabama, in and of itself, should tell you something.
Saban has been recruiting him very hard for many months now, and his official visit at least shows that he is willing to listen. Moreover, I think you have to be a bit more concerned any time Saban targets a DB simply because that is his specialty.
I still expect that he will sign with LSU, mind you, but we are causing a few uncertain stomachs with regard to his recruitment.
To be sure, I think the odds of us turning Jackson are probably higher than LSU's odds of turning Fluker, but the smart money wouldn't be on either switching. When it's all said and done, Jackson should still end up at LSU, but it's still nice to see us causing some legitimate concerns over what should be an LSU lock.
