I don't think its either per se. I just think that these guys we're recruiting for 2009 are fresher on the fans' mind than guys that were recruited last year, let alone 2008 and 2007. |

And that will always be the case. Last year it was "Oh my gosh we just got Mark Ingram, Ivan Matchett and Jermaine Preayer to go along with Terry Grant, Glenn Coffee, Demetrius Goode and Roy Upchurch, our running game will be the greatest the world has ever seen!" Granted, we did have a great running game, but five of those guys either barely factored in, or didn't play at all. It was also, "We just got B.J. Scott! He'll be the Wes Welker to Julio's Randy Moss!" Yeah, that definitely didn't happen. Now it appears he'll line up on the defensive side of the ball next year.
I guess I get a little tired of the way we act when we get recruits. Don't get me wrong, it's easy, and perfectly ok to get excited. But we anoint these guys before they ever step on campus. Remember when we signed Nikita Stover? If things had worked out like we all thought they would Julio would have been the NEXT Nikita Stover, instead he's the first Julio. Even one of the guys I was most excited about, Alex Watkins, has been in the program for two years and hasn't even seen the field. So I'm not saying I don't do it either. But you're right, we have short memories when it comes to recruiting.
And I'm not saying some of these guys wont still be future stars, on the contrary, I think many of them will be, but it's all in due time. Most of the guys we got last year played like freshman, and that's not a knock on them, it's just the way it is. Very few, and I mean VERY FEW 18 year old's can come in and play in the SEC week in and week out. Julio, Donta and Ingram could all do it. And not only could they do it, but they excelled
greatly at it. The 3 of them played above and beyond what nearly any true freshman I've ever seen has played.
Sorry to continue the OT discussion in this Bobbie Massie thread, this probably deserves a thread of its own, but I felt compelled to reiterate what BamaNky37 was saying. To relate it back to Massie, I'll go ahead and say that if he were to go ahead and sign with Bama, he's one of only 3 or 4 prospects we'd bring in that I could see having immediate playing time. His body is beyond his years. He looks as big and as fast as many of our current players.
