Either way, this is a big recruiting weekend for us. Kirkpatrick, Richardson, McCarron, Patrick, Myles, and Patterson will be in town this weekend. It'd be nice if we can really jump in front for Patterson, and it'd be even nicer if Tana went ahead and pulled the trigger.
Wow! Very big, it gives me something to look forward to.
re: WR Pat Patterson Update (01/06): He is officially visiting Bama Jan. 9th
Patterson was visited by Bama Coach Bo Davis this week. Bama is recruiting him as a wide out and slot receiver. He has narrowed his list down to four schools and that is where he will take his official vists. His top four are Alabama (1/09), Southern Miss (1/16), Ole Miss (1/23) and Tennessee (1/30). I like Bama's chances since Patterson said that he admired QB A.J. McCarron after the U.S. Army All-American Bowl game.

Where does PP stack up against the guys from last year's class? Just based off of Rival's evaluation it looks like he is in the mold of Melvin Ray or Destin Hood. Would yall agree with that assesement?

I can see him in the slot and wide out. Some are saying he is slow but the BOL profile has him at 4.5, I would say that is pretty good speed.
Based on what I saw at the Army All American Game he is a big, strong, possession receiver with nice hands; a lot like Brian Finneran with the Falcons. There is always a place for a guy like him.

I think that Patrick Patterson is closer in comparison to Julio Jones than Melvin Ray or Destin Hood. Obviously he is lower rated and ranked than Julio Jones who was ranked #4 in the 2008 Rivals 100 and #1 ranked WR overall in 2008. Patrick Patterson is currently ranked #48 in the 2009 Rivals 100 and #4 ranked WR overall in 2009. Julio Jones was ranked #1 in the Rivals.com Alabama Top 35 2008 and Patrick Patterson is ranked #1 in the Mississippi Preseason Top 25
Neither Melvin Ray or Destin Hood made the 2008 Rivals 100. Melvin Ray was the #18 ranked WR and Destin Hood the #38 ranked WR.
Re: WR Pat Patterson Update (01/06): He is officially visiting Bama Jan. 9th
It would be very nice to get PP and RR, they would both compliment each other very well while Julio's off doing his thing, (1st round pick in the 2011 NFL draft, Detriot Lions... haha, they always waste a first round pick on receivers)
but having Julio, Paterson, AND Randel with Trent or Ingram in the backfield... that is a VERY dangerous offense (agreed?) and not just next year, im talkin 2010 season, after our young line gets a bit older and our new QB settles down a bit! UNSTOPABLE... the future is BRIGHT!

CS pretty much nailed it on the rankings. He's a bit of a tweener in that regard. He's not as highly-rated as Julio was, but he is rated a good bit higher than either Ray or Hood was a year ago.
As for Patterson as a player, he's really closer to a Julio Jones type player. He has decent speed, but that's clearly not his strong suit. He's a big, physical receiver with great hands that is going to use that to make catches and be productive as a receiver. He won't be an elusive threat in the open field, but he will be a physical guy who is tough to bring down. Both Ray and Hood were a bit leaner prospects who would have relied more on their speed and athleticism in the open field to get the job done.

Regardless of their respective speeds, PP is a deep threat, something Julio hasn't really proven to be. Julio's game is after the short catch; Patterson's is in making the big catch.

Julio will be a deep threat...the fact that we haven't had a qb that could throw the deep ball probably has something to do with that.

Star can throw the deep pretty good from what I understand and Julio has it all, Deep threat, Possesion, he's just an amazing athelete I really hope we sign somebody this year to compliment him PP or RR (preferably both) our Receiving core will be among the bests in the nation! and we are still a Run team!
