It will also help when we have a QB that can look the safety off the receiver too. I love JPW, but that never was his strong suit. I think that GM will have that ability, at least he did on his TD pass to Maze...
I hope you are right about GM. But I do remember a long pass for a TD that JPW threw against Auburn one year when the outcome was sealed. Brodie was the starter and we all marveled about how good JPW looked on that pass and why wasn't he in there sooner.
With JPW's average play the past 2 years and still not seeing much of any of GM I have to believe he is not going to be an upgrade from JPW. We need a Saban recruit at QB this up and coming season.
Star or AJ. I believe that would be a better selling point for these young receivers to be able to come in and play with a young talented QB for 4 years.

not quite reason enough to just assume GM will not be any better...
however i will add, i am very interested in seeing Star play I think GM will probably be our starter this year, but having Star and AJ to show to the young receivers might help us to get commits.
as for Michael Bowman, i have to admit i had sort of forgot about him...i was excited when he committed though...are there qualifying issues with him?

why do all these threads about the recruiting process of receivers always turn into a discussion about next years QB situation? lol
LOL! Maybe its because someone has got to throw the ball to that there receiver we happen to be after. I think whoever that person is would be vital in a receivers decision in where he winds up going.
And if we don't talk about it on here you can bet its being discussed on LSU's boards who our QB will be. Randle may very well like to come to T-Town and receive the ball from AJ or Star, maybe GM too. It may not really matter who is the QB, he may just want to come to Bama for the education. Either way we would love to have him.

You may be right about GM. But I just don't see him as the next Tim Tebow, Colt McCoy or Sam Bradford in waiting. We need a QB of that caliber to help lure the Pat Patterson's, Reuben Randells and Micheal Bowmans of the next class and beyond. Plus a threat at QB gives the opposing teams more to worry about.

oh come on, there will never be a 'next Tebow'
i don't think we've seen enough of GM to really know. do know he won the state title in Texas - that's pretty impressive. and he's looked good whenever in there... but just have to let the coaches figure it out - i trust them to put the right guy in there. (fwiw i think Star Jackson is the QB that will be luring the receivers here for the next few years i just can't wait to see him! one reason i like star is that on the sideline all year he seemed like he was ALWAYS into the game and paying attention, congratulating teammates, etc. looks like a leader)
ok, back to receivers....
i'm assuming most of the receivers we are looking at will be NSD announcements?

That's the second time (I think) where I've read your opinion that it's time for a Saban recruit at qb. I've agreed both times! Unless the separation with GM is a big gap over Star, I'd love to see Star get his chance. This is nothing against GM and I admire his loyalty to the program. I still think if GM was as developed as some think he may be that he would have pushed JPW for more playing time. He may be the answer for next year, but I'm thinking that if he is we are going to see more of the same type of offense which may translate into a difficult year unless the young O-line really gels and becomes dominant like this year's. If Star offers close to the same ability to win games, I'd like to see him despite the fact that his youth may translate into a few mistakes on the field. If his athleticism is as advertised, I figure he'd more than make up for his mistakes with more dynamic play ability. Just my opinion.
I do believe this has something to do with a discussion about recruits though, because Star and AJ are fresher in these recruits minds. GM is probably pretty unknown to these recruits since he's never had any quality pt at the Capstone and was recruited three years ago (?) and his recruitment was overshadowed by the Tebow show. Matter of fact, wasn't he Shula's back up plan to Tebow?

Yep, I have said it more than once and I agree with you on your analysis. GM was a Shula fallback after the Tebow spurn.
I think these receiver recruits are making relationships as we speak with the future QB's. I do believe Julio and Star bonded before they signed with Bama and its been said AJ and Randle are doing some of the same. Don't know if Patterson and AJ are conversing but it wouldn't surprise me as well as Bowman with AJ too.
JPW was a 2 year returning starter and there was no way a true freshman was going to come in and upset that. But next year I look for Stars relationship with the fellow class mates he came in with as well as this years class to be real close. I think Patterson and Randle are seeing the oneness that is developing between each of these classes and know something big is in the making.
At least I am hoping so!!!

Nothing like Alabama fans and our love of the 2nd string QB. McElroy hasn't even officially started a game yet for next season, and Star (the presumed backup) is already the most popular person on the team!
