QB Chris Garrett, Tupelo, Miss.

Interesting stuff on Chris Garrett. He just signed with LSU on friday, and is set to enroll early. However, he wanted to go to Alabama for quite some time, but when Coach Applewhite was here, he turned him away.

Quote:
Ironically, Alabama head coach Nick Saban, when visiting with Golden Wave receiver Chad Bumphis at the high school on Tuesday, asked Tupelo High head coach Eric Collins about Garrett's commitment to LSU.

Collins then explained to Saban how Alabama was Garrett's first choice before committing to MSU, and that Collins and Garrett had spoken with the Alabama offensive coordinator at the time to see if the Tide were interested.

'Game over' for Alabama
"We called Alabama and Major Applewhite said point blank that he wasn't interested and didn't think that he could play in the SEC," Collins said. "Game over."

Saban's response, according to Collins, was that his program now has a new offensive coordinator in Jim McElwain and "Coach McElwain loves the guy."

"I said, I will mention it to Chris, and if there's any ray of hope I will let you know, but I can tell you now that I believe that Chris is solid with LSU.'"

I don't think this is to big of a loss. We already have a great QB in this class

Interesting comment about the 5* silent commit from a WR. He also says they're recruiting the #1 player in the country, so I hope that's referring to RR and not the silent commit.

I think the "silent commit" is Craig Loston out of Houston, who also happens to be Russell Shepard's cousin.

I don't think Garrett is a big loss, I just thought it was interesting how these things work out. Applewhite didn't like him, but McElwain seems to think a lot of him. However, if we add a second QB I want it to be Mosley.

The thing that seems odd to me is that if we liked him that much, how did we lose contact for about a year?

"He (Miles) said there is no starting quarterback going into the spring," Garrett said. "Whoever's the best quarterback coming out of that will have the upper leg going into the fall.

"We've got a four-star receiver committed, another five-star that's a solid commitment that no one knows about, and they're in contention for the No. 1 player in the country who is a wide receiver. So, you are going to have targets to throw to if you go there."
I'm curious who the 5 Star WR that Miles is referring to that is a solid commitment. There aren't that many out there. Maybe Marlon Brown in Memphis?

Loston is a safety that is a solid silent commitment. Maybe its Debose though, he's supposedly leaning that way out of the battle between LSU/Florida. And that's not Miles' quote I think its Garrett's.

How's that? Is it not a link about Chris Garrett? I was just passing along information about Chris Garrett that was related to Alabama.

Big A Re: QB Chris Garrett, Tupelo, Miss.

IMO, the kid out of Leroy is better than Garrett.

Re: QB Chris Garrett, Tupelo, Miss.

If we somehow take another QB in this class I would take Clint Mosley just ahead of Tyler Russell out of, Meridian, Miss.

There are whispers around that Clint could get a greyshirt. They are just whispers and nothing confirmed but I know how popular he is among Bama fans so I though I would pass it along. If we are gonna give him one we better do it before Auburn offers him straight up. Would hate to have to take a true Bama fan behind the woodshed once a year.

And on a side note, it just goes to show what a major step up CJM has been as OC. Major Applewhite will develop into a fine coach one day but at this time an elite coach he is not.
