It also would not surprise me to see Fitzgerald and Tiffin back off of scholarship.
I've been saying that ever since they and King got those 3 extra scholly's and people start screaming bloody murder. But I think its possible because it wouldn't exactly be the normal (or not so normal) situation of just pulling a scholly for a player that isn't exactly a star. Coach rewarded them with a scholarship for a year because we unexpectedly had 3 extras. They were there, and it allowed them some financial relief for a year. And if it does come to that, that was probably explained to them and their families then. And I'd be willing to bet that they were all thankful for the scholly even if it is just for a year as I'm sure it was unexpected relief for them. But it wouldn't exactly be as if we recruited a player that had a lot of options in the recruiting game, then decided to take their scholly to get more spots open. That's where the injustice would come from.

CNS has a 2 year policy for starting PK's & punters . I don't see him breaking it .

I agree about the kickers. Give me a kid like Saroda (sic?) from Utah who is outstanding in every phase of the game and I don't mind giving him a scholarship, but kickers who are good on 60% of their field goals, land less than 10% in the end zone on kick offs, or punters who net 34 yards per?
Seems almost amazing that we have not done better in the area of our specialists. Lord knows we get enough kids up there trying out for those spots. It just rarely seems to play out that we find a real gem.

I said that a few months back when they were officially put on scholarship, and I was ripped pretty good for it, too. However, that said, I still think that may very well happen.
And honestly, if you want to split hairs about it, it probably should happen. I know they were starting at kicker and punter, but even so Tiffin missed just about every big kick he had, and Fitzgerald was still one of the worst punters in the conference. Aside from missing just about every non-meaningful kick -- he missed two easy kicks in a tight game Kentucky, two kicks against LSU, including the chip-shot game-winner, and two potentially huge kicks against Utah in the Sugar Bowl -- Tiffin struggled a good bit on kick-offs and we finished 9th in the conference in net punting with Fitzgerald. Truth be told, neither have performed well enough to be considered scholarship worthy, IMO.
I said months ago that they may have been given scholarships on a one-year basis. Remember that all scholarships must renewed annually, and I wouldn't be surprised if neither Fitzgerald or Tiffin didn't see their scholarship renewed. Honestly, I'd much rather bring in an extra prospect like Stinson than I would keep those guys on scholarship.
Rip me for it if you want, but that's my opinion on the matter.
No rip from me, there is no question Tiffin had a bad year. If the job is not open this spring to competition something is wrong down at Alabama.

Back to the topic of the thread, the guys at Rivals say that Stinson is most likely our guy at Jack for this class...I'd be surprised if he doesn't sign with us. Still holding out hope for Fletcher Cox, but I think Stinson will be the one that meets our need for a dynamic pass rusher in this class.

I just spoke with my friend who I referenced when I started the thread, and his report from Ed's high school coach is that after Coach Saban's visit: "Stinson is a LOCK for Bama."

I certainly hope that turns out to be the case. He will fill the DE/Jack LB spot rather nicely with his athleticism. I am hoping Bama can get both Stinson and Cox signed.

I agree. And frankly I feel pretty good about our chances of doing just that.

Great source. Thanks for the info. That info has now made it out publically in an article on BOL. The article is in Stinson's profile below.
Stinson has now named Bama as his leader. He said he will make his decision sometime next week after he visits FSU. He will notify the coaches of the schools involved when he makes his final decision but he will not announce his choice until NSD. Right now it does look like he is indeed a Bama 'LOCK' but we will have to wait until NSD to find out for sure.
