Big A re: ATH/CB Greg Reid Update (2/03): He is announcing his decision tonight

I'm not going to get my hopes up on Mr. Reid at this point (I believe he'll wind up at UGA), but man oh man what a huge pickup this guy would be!!!

He was going to start as a true freshman. How'd did that one work out, by the way?

Truth be told, I think any prospect ought to be wary of any head coach out there literally promising early playing time. I don't care who you are... playing time is earned, not given... regardless of what a coach may tell you when he's trying to get you to commit.

Speaking of "miles" - it is 78 miles from Valdosta to Tallahassee, 245 miles from Valdosta to Athens, and 346 miles from Valdosta to Tuscaloosa.

He's far from being a UGA lock.

To be honest a kid like this you have no idea where he is going, it reminds me of T.J. Bryant last year where everyone had him going to FSU and then Bama was most peoples surprise pick to land him, but in the end he ended up at USC Trojans!! Im not saying Bama is oing to land him but we are in it...

I really beginning to think we might just land him. His comments certainly don't contradict that.

This would be an incredible haul. From almost being completely thrown out of recognition to being tied for his services a week away from NSD.

People wondering about "surprise commitments", this could be the closest possibility to that this year.
If we were to land Reid it would be more than a "surprise" IMO. It would be a shocker. It's just nice that we're back to the level of being able to come in at the last moment and seriously recruit a kid of his caliber, shows how good CNS really is IMO.

You know it's really a shame we got on this kid so late. If he had interest in us from the beginning and he was able to develop strong relationships with our coaches and players, I don't think there is any team who could beat us for him. Unfortunately, I think we miss out but what a statement it would be if he was to choose us. WOW.

I remember Mike McNeil and Sidell being very good friends, I never knew who Sidell was, but there was always alot talk about him in Davidson's weight room that summer of their senior year, something about a possible transfer to our school to play ball, needless to say it never happend... But Who was he? Where did he commit? and What about Les Miles and Sidell?

Sidell Corley was a highly-touted defensive end prospect coming out of Mobile in the 2007 recruiting class.

All of the major programs wanted him, and fairly early into the process he committed to Florida. However, over time it became clear he really didn't want to be there, and finally his father gave him the permission -- he was a stickler on sticking to his word -- to break his commitment to the Gators, which he ultimately did. After that, he became a big free agent and a lot of programs went really hard after him, namely Alabama, Tennessee, and LSU.

Anyway, the final weekend before NSD, Corley took an official visit to LSU and committed to them before he left. When he got back home, all he did was rant and rave about how great LSU was, and how he was going to come in and play immediately, and that he was told he'd have a great shot at getting a starting job as a true freshman. It was so clear as to why he committed (promises of early playing time) that even Ray Charles could have seen it.

Well... he (predictably) redshirted in 2007, and last year he played sparingly as the third-string defensive end. All told, he registered a whopping two tackles, both of which came in garbage time against mighty Tulane, and in two seasons at LSU has only appeared in two games (Tulane and North Texas).

And that's why we talk about Sidell Corley and playing time promises.

What's the status on this guy's grades? I thought I remembered reading when his name was first being mentioned that he had some problems there.

There were some rumblings, but I'm not sure it's that big of a deal.

After all, he was committed to Florida, and you have to give Urban Meyer credit, he doesn't sign anyone with academic question marks. The guy has put together four recruiting classes at Florida, and has only lost two guys as academic casualties.

I highly doubt Florida would have been on him like they were if he probably weren't going to qualify.
