It doesn't hurt that his recruiting base, Florida, has very well funded school systems for academics throughout the state. I'm sure the same statistics are true of Big Ten schools and Pac 10 schools.
You just nailed it. Our schools here are very well funded and produce smart kids. Many of the football players in HS (in all districts) are on the honor roll.

re: ATH/CB Greg Reid Update (2/03): He is announcing his decision tonight

A bit of an update on Reid...

Coach Saban dropped by his high school yesterday to meet with him, and again thins went really well. The shine picked up on Reid's official visit certainly hasn't worn off any, and he's still very positive about Alabama. I don't know, I've been a bit skeptical about our chances with him, but maybe we do have a good shot with him.

The one thing that does worry me is that he talks about location being a big factor because he wants to stay close to his grandmother, and that's a bit of a concern for us. Out of Alabama, FSU, and Georgia, Tuscaloosa is the furthest away from Valdosta. We're about a six hour drive from Valdosta, Athens is about a four, and unfortunately Tallahassee is only about 90 minutes away. If location is as big of a deal as he makes it out to be, I think you have to consider FSU the favorite regardless of the positive things he has said about us. And, furthermore, FSU will be coming to take an in-home visit with him tonight, and he'll be taking an official visit to Georgia this weekend. Hopefully those two can cancel out and he'll come back to the Tide.

Either way, we'll find out on Tuesday before NSD, that's when he says he is going to announce.

Obviously he likes Bama, CNS and Javier a whole lot but if I had to venture a prediction right now I would say he will end up at FSU with Bama being a close second. Of course I still like Bama's chances and with CNS leading the charge it ain't over till it is over. Aight!

Certainly looks that way. I'm amazed with the amount of ground we've made up on him in such a short time to even make it interesting however. CNS is the M-A-N!!!

Neither, probably.

The smart money is on FSU regardless.

Re: Greg Reid set for Georgia visit

I must have been thinking of Darren Myles... The battle is for UGA and Bama on Myles, correct? I'm sorry, Track practice took it out of me today! But Still I thought we were leading for Reid's sig.

Re: Greg Reid set for Georgia visit

I would love to see him in Crimson and I believe he likes all of his top three, but I'm not very encouraged about our prospects. Still, though, part of being an incurable optimist is expecting pleasant surprises. We'll see...

Thank you, I have a list written out right here in front of my moniter of all the prospects to watch for on Nick Saban Day, and I also listed the battles of ones that we were fighting for, I must have gotten mixed up somewhere... How is Myles looking?

We'll see... fingers crossed right now.

We look good for him, the LSU people don't think they will get him, and idiots like Newberg suddenly think he is Tennessee bound.

I think we'll get him, but it's not a done deal yet.

Yeah, anyone who reads GR's comments about the UGA visit might think twice about Georgia's chances. He talks about hanging out with friends, including a best friend who is already committed to UGA.

I know recruiting depends on a lot of things, but the kid is from Georgia and his friends are all going to UGA. That has to tug on him.

Athens is on the opposite side of the state as Valdosta. Its about 4 hours. Tallahassee is only about 90 minutes and I think that is what is the deciding factor right now. But it is always good to get the last visit so UGA might be able to pull it off.
