With the exception of Trent Richardson all the commits plus LB Tana Patrick, DT Brandon Moore, and RB Eddie Lacey have now signed with Alabama. We are just waiting on Trent Richardson and a few other top prospects like Dre Kirkpatrick and Kendall Kelly to sign.
This is a great class and it is going to get better. I say that even with the misses on Myles, Patrick, Massie, Teague. and Randle.
Well now Bama has signed Dre Kirkpatrick and Kendall Kelly. We are waiting on Trent Richardson to sign and maybe a couple of more surprises if things go right.
Great class!

This year's National Signing Day ended with Rivals.com anointing Alabama a mythical national title as the nation's No. 1 recruiting class for a second consecutive year. It marked the first time a Southeastern Conference school has been so honored, with the Crimson Tide joining Southern Cal as the only college football program to turn the trick.
"It's awesome," McCarron said. "I know the people on the Internet and Alabama fans in general felt like that was just a one-time thing last year, and they were just hoping we could get just a top-five class this year. This class, what makes it so special, you don't have one huge recruit like (former Foley receiver) Julio (Jones). You don't have one guy that just stands out over everybody. You've got a team, a whole team built together."
After a roller-coaster day of announcements, Richardson made 29 official additions in Alabama's 2009 signing class, with four early enrollees that could count toward 2008 or 2009.
Biggest catch -- Trent Richardson, running back, Escambia (Fla.) High. One of Alabama earliest commitments still kept the Tide waiting until the end before it edged out LSU and Florida.
Most frustrating miss -- Greg Reid, cornerback, Lowndes (Ga.) High. Reportedly informed Alabama coaches he would sign with them, then chose Florida State on Tuesday instead.
Potential sleeper -- Quinton Dial, defensive line, Clay-Chalkville. An early commit who flew under the radar, Dial could immediately add depth and athleticism on the defensive line.

Crimson Tide fans were kept in suspense most of the day Wednesday, waiting to see if super-star recruit Trent Richardson would keep his long-time (but wavering) commitment to the Alabama football program and if Dre Kirkpatrick would stay close to home.
In the end, both prospects chose to play for Nick Saban and Alabama ended the day with (according to Rivals anyway) the nation's best recruiting class for a second straight year.
Here's a rundown of all the coverage from al.com Wednesday during the day, and from Thursday's editions of The Birmingham News, The Huntsville Times and the Press-Register. General stories first, then it's sorted by prospect.

When Alabama Coach Nick Saban finished his obligatory press conference at just before 5 p.m. and walked into "The Zone" at Bryant Denny Stadium to the thunderous whoops and applause of the Red Elephant Club members assembled, he had a grin. The look on his face was that of a guy who had just run a punt back for the winning score in the Super Bowl, got kissed by the prettiest cheerleader, and now was coming to the bench to be mauled by his teammates.
He had just finished his second top recruiting class in a row, reeling in more top talent and leaving in his wake a trail of coaches left pulling their hair out and wondering, "How does he keep doing this?"

Great class!
Imagine how good Dre will be with CNS tutoring him. WOW!

While Florida, Georgia, South Carolina and Tennessee had the top recruiting classes among the six East Division schools of the Southeastern Conference, there’s no doubt that Alabama and Louisiana State were the best of the West.
While all six of the West Division schools were ranked among the final 25 teams by ESPN/Scouts, Inc., the Crimson Tide and Tigers were the cream of the crop.
ESPN determined that LSU signed the best signing day class in the nation. While I think ESPN does a terrific job, I don’t quite see eye-to-eye on this decision. I think the Crimson Tide rolled, particularly in the final days before National Signing Day on Feb. 4.
