Recruited in 2008 by Lance Thompson and Nick Saban .
Jermaine was originally a member of Alabama's 2008 signing class but , delayed his enrollment in order to recover from shoulder surgery .
20th ranked RB by Rivals.com in 2008 .
82nd ranked RB by Scout.com in 2008 .
5th ranked FB by ESPNU in 2008 .
As a senior Preyear totaled 1,027 yards rushing and 8 touchdowns .
If there was a questionable prospect in Coach Saban's 2008 or 2009 recruiting classes , it would probably be Jermaine Preyear . He was consistent and even impressive at times as an inside runner on the high school level but , Preyear isn't overly explosive or elusive and is lacking a step when it comes to top end speed . While Jermaine is already enrolled and will participate in Spring practice , he was injured much of his last two seasons and will have to make up a lot of ground in order to gain considerable reps at his position . That said , and with the number of quality players at Preyear's position , an eventual move to FB is not out of the question and could even be considered as probable . Jermaine chose the Capstone over Auburn , Florida and Ole Miss .

Hard to argue with where you guys have him listed. He'll have to really "breakout" to heavily factor into the mix at RB with the talent we're assembling there, barring a slew of injuries of course. It's not a knock on Jermaine by any means because he's a talented kid, it's just that we've got some "big time" talent at the position. Going through the spring should give him a slight edge to start out though (at least over the other incoming frosh).

I played HS ball with Preyear, and one thing that stood out was how much he lifts in the weight room! about 270 on bench, 515 on squat, power clean like 315... just amazing!

As I understand it, the delay was called by the governor of Louisiana in order to position snipers just in case Randle tried "sometin' funnay" -IH8Orange

That being said, any guess what coach Saban saw that caused us to sign him?

Hard worker, weight room junkie, inside runner..... CNS just didn't know we were going to have an insta-stud in Ingram and sign Richardson/Lacy in the next class.
If there is one thing we Bama fans should know from the recent past it is that you can never have enough quality running backs.
Jermaine Preyear signed in 2008 and enrolled at Alabama for summer classes in 2008. He then had to withdraw from school before the fall semester to have shoulder surgery and he was grayshirted. He completed his rehabilitation from the surgery and again enrolled and reported to the team in January. He is a 2008 grayshirt but some list include him as a 2009 signee. His eligibility clock will start and he will be a true freshman this season.
Preyear reportedly runs a 4.5 forty so he is a fast, strong runner with good hands for catching the ball out of the backfield. He will get a jump on the 2009 RB signees since he will go through Spring practice this year but I still look for him to redshirt. I do think that eventually he will be a solid contributer in an Alabama backfield that has the potential to have the best RBs in the SEC.
