Recruited by Curt Cignetti and Nick Saban .
Anthony was a 1st team selection at the 2008 Nike combine held in Atlanta .
23rd ranked DE by Rivals.com
86th rated DE by ESPNU
28th ranked DT by Scout.com
During his senior season Orr registered 64 tackles , 11 stops for loss and 2 sacks .
At a glance , Anthony is a typical Nick Saban signee with size and athleticism but , he is not considered to be an elite D1 athlete . While from a physical standpoint Orr does indeed look the part of a quality DE , it doesn't always show out on the gridiron as there are concerns about his willingness to play with intensity for extended periods . Also , Anthony has a tendency to play too tall at the point of attack and is inconsistent when it comes to shedding blockers . That said , with dedication to a serious S&C program the potential and frame is there for Orr to become a solid contributor at either DE position but , he'll have to battle other incoming freshmen who were slotted much higher on many boards . Anthony signed with the Tide over offers from Auburn , Clemson , MissSt. , S.Carolina and Tennessee .

Re: TideFans 2009 Crown Jewel Countdown - #26 - DE Anthony Orr .
Orr is guy with a lot of potential, whether or not he fulfills that potential will be largely up to him and how bad he wants it. I suspect he'll (along with all the other frosh for that matter) find out pretty early what it'll take for him to see the field.

We've had our fair share of DL who "play tall" at the DE spot. Hopefully, Orr will learn and develop into an asset on the defense and get some playing time within 2 years.

i notice some of these critiques of incoming freshmen are pretty explosive. remember these young men are coming from high school, and the jump is probably bigger than going from college into the nfl. unusual for even anticipated talented freshmen to get much playing time their first year or second. the strength and conditioning programs are immense. the one on one coaching is intense compared to low budget high schools. i prefer to trust our coaching staff in recruiting these young men, and see how they are sorted out. i do enjoy the seeing the recruiting services ratings of these young men, and will continue to observe.

I believe Anthony will provide high quality depth for us and with some good coaching and motivation has the potential to earn a starting spot in a few years.

The kid has the potential to be another Brandon Deaderick type of DE for us.
That sounds about right.

Trust me , we're taking the high road or nice route with our evaluations . If you study our ratings system , we do not and will not forecast failure for any signee . On the other hand , we will not pump sunshine or over-hype players either . Accuracy is our goal and over the next 3 to 5 years , the answers will be out there for all to see

Anthony Orr is 6' 5", 265 lbs and runs a 4.8 forty. It is just a testiment to the depth and quality of the Bama 2009 signing class that he is ranked near the bottom of this class. I expect him to redshirt and after a year of the Bama S&C program he will be a regular contributer on a very solid DL.
Anthony Orr is the 23rd-ranked defensive end prospect by Rivals.com and the No. 28 defensive tackle by Scout.com ... No. 16 on the Mobile Press-Register's Elite 18 ... the No. 14 prospect in the state of Alabama by Rivals.com ... member of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution Super Southern 100 ... No. 120 on the Scout.com Southeast 150 and No. 18 on the Press-Register's Elite 18 ... ranked 14th in Alabama by SuperPrep Magazine ... the No. 86 defensive end prospect by ESPNU ... first-team selection at the All-Nike Combine during the summer of 2008 in Atlanta ... made 64 tackles as a senior in 2008 with 11 tackles for loss and two sacks ... recorded 48 tackles as a junior with 16 tackles for loss and five sacks ... coached by Roger Haynes ... chose the Crimson Tide over Auburn, Clemson, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Mississippi State.

I think that's one of the things that I would like to point out about the little informal rankings we have here.
The tendency of the major recruiting sites is to give an ungodly amount of hype to the five-stars, while the lower recruited guys are essentially billed as, maybe, being able to get their jock on correctly if they practice hard at it for a few years.
In reality, the situation is a lot more fluid. Even most of the legitimate three-stars have good attributes in their own right, and regardless of what they say, even the most highly-touted five-stars have flaws in their game. It's all a bit more complicated than they let on, and while generally speaking the recruiting rankings hold true, there is a reason why you often see three-stars turn into great players while five-stars turn into busts.

I haven't seen him play but from what I have read and heard that about sums it up. As BEAT said, it is up to him.

I hope our rankings reflect that basic insight.
Exactly . Plus , with four of us participating is it reasonable to expect everything to come out on the warm and fuzzy end of the equation ? It's just not very likely to happen the overwhelming majority of the time .
