Recruited by Kirby Smart and Nick Saban .
Kellen received first team 5A all state honors as a senior and played in this years Georgia Coaches North-South All-Star game .
24th rated OG by Rivals.com
29th rated OT by Scout.com
78th rated OT by ESPNU
Kellen is a blue collar kid who spent much of his high school career at tackle before ultimately finding his strong suit when he moved inside to guard . He has decent athleticism , good strength and plays with a lot of effort to go along with solid technique . Williams is a strong straight line run blocker who brings a high level of intensity to the field every time he suits up but , his quickness off the ball is average and his lateral movement is somewhat limited . TideFans feels Kellen will eventually work his way up the depth chart at either right or left guard with center also being a possibility . Williams chose the Crimson Tide over Arkansas , Boston College , FSU , NC State , Vandy and Wake Forest .

Wow LCN thats a big drop from your evaluation compared to the other guys.
I take it that the offense we ran last season is the offense of the future not just because of who our personnel was. I like that offense myself as I have always liked a run first team over a pass first team.
Great defense though trumps any offense in my opinion.

By giving Kellen a rating of 1 , a sleeper in our system , I feel he could accomplish even more than what our other staffers have forecasted but , I could also see the possibility of Kellen being "recruited by" before he has an opportunity to break through as Coach Saban could easily turn around and sign a few OG's over the course of the next year or two who are at the very top of nearly every teams wish list .
In other words , it would not surprise me much at all if Kellen were to become a multi-year starter but , I wouldn't be shocked if it never comes to pass either . That's why I've labled him as a sleeper which is definately not intended as a slight . It's really a pretty fine line but , if you check our system I think you'll see what I'm saying as several examples of sleepers are listed

Makes perfect sense to me. I guess it really boils down to his devotion to being the best he can be and to the luck of the draw. There will most likely be more talented players yet to come into the program down the road so he had better devote himself now or like you said he may never see much if anything when it comes to playing time.
Really that could be said for most recruits besides the Julio Jones' of course.

I think you are right that it is possible, over the next couple of years, that coach Saban could recruit players that pass Kellen by. Especially, considering the success that we are having, which will draw looks from many "top of the line" players. I also understand that, by saying this, you are not slighting him.
With that said, I have watched Kellen play since he was a kid, he lives a couple miles from me and this is how I would evaluate him;
He is a smart young man who loves to play football. He has a constant motor and he is strong. Although I consider him a very talented player, he is IMO an overachiever and I mean that in a good way. His pass blocking needs work but he has a tremendous work ethic and deceptive quickness. He will work on it until he gets it. His run drive blocking is well above average and he loves knock people off the line. I think he will redshirt this year to give him another year to mature.
In short, anyone that coach Saban recruits will have a fight on their hands if they intend to pass up Kellen in the line up. They may do it but he will make them and this team better in the process.
Re: TideFans 2009 Crown Jewel Countdown - #25 - OL Kellen Williams .
I really like Kellen's potential. He could be another Mike Johnson who floats between positions for a couple of years before finding a home and becomes a two-year starter.
Re: TideFans 2009 Crown Jewel Countdown - #25 - OL Kellen Williams .
The thing I love about this kid is he committed early and never waivered and was obviously all Bama the whole time and that is a breath of fresh air in the craziness of recruiting these days. I think he can make an impact on this team and I hope he does. RTR.

I agree with you on that. He took on a "leadership role" in this class by committing that early and that really said a great deal to me about his character.

Kellen Williams is a hard nosed blue collar type lineman that every school wants to have on their team. I expect to see him end up at OG when it is all said and done. He has a motor that is always running and he will give it his all on each and every play. I believe he will redshirt next season and eventually make it into the rotation as either an OG or OC.
Kellen Williams is a talented offensive line prospect from across the state line in Georgia ... ranked as the No. 24 offensive guard by Rivals.com and the No. 35 player in the state of Georgia ... listed by Scout.com as the No. 28 offensive tackle prospect in the country ... a first-team 5A Georgia Sports Writers Association All-State selection ... an Atlanta Journal-Constitution Georgia Top 150 selection ... played in the Georgia Athletic Coaches Association North-South All-Star Game ... No. 121 on Scout.com's Southeast 150 list ... ranked No. 36 on SuperPrep's list of top player in Georgia ... coached by Mark Crews ... chose the Crimson Tide over Florida State, Arkansas, Boston College, Wake Forest, North Carolina State and Vanderbilt.

A little bad news on Kellen. Observers of the scrimmage are saying that Kellen was there and had a very large cast on his leg and was limping around. Word is he tore his ACL. I can't find any confirmation that this is true yet that is just the word going around.

Certainly not good news if true.

If it is true I imagine he would be a candidate for a greyshirt so he can recover. Much like Preyear.
