Recruited by Bo Davis and Nick Saban .
Steen was chosen as an All-Star in his classification and the most valuable lineman in his conference .
25th rated OG by Scout.com
26th rated OG by Rivals.com
39th rated DT by ESPNU
Steen was a versatile athlete in high school playing on both sides of the line along with filling the roles of snapper and kicker for his team but , much of his accomplishments were achieved against inferior competition in a pretty thin classification . When Anthony was given a chance though to see how he stacked up against quality competition at camp last year in Tuscaloosa , he did not disappoint . The general feeling was that Steen was perhaps the nastiest and meanest lineman in camp . Anthony enjoys lifting and is very strong to go along with an endless motor . He's quick off the ball and gets good leverage on his blocks with the ability to drive his opponent but , still has quite a ways to go when it comes working on improving his technique . Steen has some experience at center but , was signed as a guy who could play guard or defensive tackle so he may bounce around a time or two before his position is finally determined . TideFans believes his eventual home will be at offensive guard . Anthony chose to roll with the Tide over FSU , Miami-FL , Miss St. , Ole Miss and So. Miss .
*Academic concerns are still in play .

Here is another very talented lineman that I expect will redshirt next season. Steen is an extremely strong and fast lineman. He reportedly runs a 4.95 40-yard dash with a 415 lb bench press, 350 in the power clean and 550 in the squat. He has a very quick first step and he could play on either side of the LOS but I believe he will be a RG at Bama.

Two key words in the assessment,,,,, meanest, nastiest. This is my guy!
A huge reason why he's one of my favorite signees as well, along with his athleticism at the position. He could easily turn out to be one of the biggest "sleepers" of this class (relative to where the major services had him ranked) IMO.

This is why he could have easily ended up in my top 15. However, there are two big question marks in my mind: 1) grades 2) consistency vs. top competition

That's what makes me think of Justin Smiley when I see his film, and hear these descriptions.

Coach Bryant, after announcing his retirement, was asked if he was dissappointed that an Alabama player had never won the Heisman Trophy while he was the coach. He said, "No!", and added, "At Alabama our players do not win Heisman Trophies, our teams win national championships."
Rodney Orr says Steen has made a qualifying test score. So as long as Steen does his school work and doesn't let his grades fall he will be eligible in the fall.

Excellent news!

Wow, good news. Its seems that CNS has a nack for finding players that can take care of business in the classroom. He seems a very good judge of whether a player will be committed or not. He sticks with players despite them having a lot of work to do. Examples of this include Alonzo Lawrence, Marcel Dareus, Rod Woodson, Bowman, and Norwood. This is great because we might not have gotten many of these players if he would not have been on them so early and stuck by them.
Any others that I missed that were expected to be academic casualties but were able to pull it out? Finding room for all these guys is a great problem to have!

Things are looking pretty good on the academic front now.
Both Anthony Steen and Rod Woodson have seemingly gotten the job done on the academic front, and there are a lot of rumblings that Michael Bowman has done the same. There is no confirmation yet on the latter, but at the least it seems like he has a very good chance of making it. Moreover, Eddie Lacy was at the A-Day game insisting to everyone that he had gotten qualified, and I'm hearing some positive reports on him down this way.
The major concern I have is Sentimore, sigh...
I'm expecting somewhere between one to three academic casualties. I'm sure the Clearinghouse will get at least one guy...
