Arrow TideFans 2009 Crown Jewel Countdown - #22 - DE/TE William Ming .

Ratings system - http://www.tidefans.com/forums/recru...countdown.html

#22 - DE/TE William Ming 6' 3" 260
Athens , AL
Coached by Allen Creasy at Athens high school .

TideFans consensus rating - 3.5
BET - 4
LCN - 3.5
CS - 3
RTO - 3

Recruited by Curt Cignetti and Nick Saban .
William received honorable mention All-State accolades as a senior .
12th ranked SDE by Rivals.com
19th ranked DE by ESPNU
28th ranked DE by Scout.com

Ming registered 47 tackles and four sacks in 2008 .

William is a big , physical kid with high character who plays smart and displays good leadership qualities . He does not have the elite athleticism to become one of the conference's top pass rushing ends but , he possesses good size and enough quickness off the ball to become a solid player in the future at either DE position . However , the Tide coaching staff feels William is versatile enough that a look at TE has also been discussed . It's also a position where he would likely find the quickest path to playing time . While William certainly has the potential and ability to contribute early in his career , his ultimate fate will remain uncertain until a permanent position is determined . Ming is heading to the Capstone over offers from Auburn , LSU , Oklahoma and Tennessee .

If he stays on D, I can draw a comparison to Bobby Greenwood, perhaps. Not elite in any aspect, but just a solid blue collar kid. Seems to be a trend amongst our jumbo athletes.

The other guy who comes to mind for me would be Jarrett Johnson . Ming is right at the same size and will arrive , as did Johnson , already posessing sound fundamentals and technique

I believe that these kind of players are ones that CNS & Co can mold and polish into a beast of a rotation.

William Ming is a big, tough, and versatile lineman who could play either DE or Jack LB but it would not surprise me to see him end up as a TE. Where he ends up depends on if he slims down or bulks up at Bama. I agree with the others who said he reminds them of either Bobby Greenwood or Jarrett Johnson. That is some high praise in my opinion.

I see more Jarrett Johnson in him, because his motor is always running. He'll only bolster an already impressive defensive line if that's the case.

I like the Greenwood and Johnson comparisons. Ming will probably never be a big "star" for us but he should be a very solid contributor for us in the future.

Re: TideFans 2009 Crown Jewel Countdown - #22 - DE/TE William Ming .

Saban said in his PC after signing day, that mind Ming may get a look at LB (Jack), until he can add some build on his frame.

http://www.rolltide.com/sports/m-foo...020409aaa.html
On William Ming:
"William is one of those guys that is a good athlete and can stand up on his feet and play. He has played mostly with his hand in the dirt. He may try him as a jack, kind of an outside linebacker, with some pass rush ability and athleticism. If he gets bigger, we'll probably end up moving him to defensive end and let him grow into sort of a five or six technique kind of a defensive end, kind of the style of Bobby Greenwood, if he gets bigger. If he stays the same, I think he is athletic enough to stand up and play for us and try to make a pass rusher out of him."

We know . It doesn't mean we have to believe he'll ever take a gameday snap at JLB though
