Recruited by James Willis and Nick Saban .
Jonathan was a first-team All-State selection at the 5A level .
14th ranked OLB by ESPNU
16th ranked SLB by Scout.com
24th ranked OLB by Rivals.com
As a senior , Atchison racked up 125 tackles , 13 stops for loss and 7 sacks in a highly competitive classification .
Jonathan is a fast and aggressive athlete who looks to have been well coached in high school and brings a solid set of skills to the SLB position . He excels against the run , in coverage and coming off the edge . Atchison usually handles blockers well and is a pretty solid tackler but , can be driven at times . He has the build to add more weight without having any noticeable effect on his speed or agility and if his weight room numbers are accurate , it's likely that Jonathan will have an opportunity to make an impact this Fall as a contributor on special teams . Atchison signed with the Tide over offers from Auburn , Kentucky , LSU , Louisville and Mississippi State .

Atchison is what you look for in an OLB. I think he could easily add another 15-20 lbs and still maintain his level of athleticism. It was big for us to get him to switch from API, not only do we get a terrific young prospect but we keep our chief rival from getting what would have been one of their best signees had he chosen to stick with them. It's the gift that keeps on giving (especially if Jonathan can develop the way he's capable of).

Took the words right out of my mouth. If his weight room numbers are accurate, he'll be on the field this year at least on ST.
I heard an interview right after signing day and JA said he was 6 -3 1/2 ,,218 and said he expected to arrive at Bama at least 225. This was right out of his mouth and sounded like he was ready to work hard and get on the field in the Fall and play wherever he is needed.
This is someone who could get major playing time this fall, if he works hard enough.

This guy is a very exciting prospect. Like a few others in this class that aren't considered 4 stars by the services he's a guy that has a great chance to show that these services aren't on coaches levels when it comes to evaluating. He has the size, speed, and production that you look for in a quality LB
Jonathan Atchison is one of the top LBs in the south and the entire country. He was signed to play either the Will or Sam LB positions at Bama. He is quick off the edge and shows good pass rushing skills and he uses his hands well to get off of blockers. He has very good size and speed that allows him to drop into pass coverage where he reacts well in space. He started his HS career as a DE and he also played TE on offense. I look for him at the very least to be a top performer on ST and maybe even get into the WLB rotation.
A fast and versatile linebacker, Jonathan Atchison was a first-team 5A Georgia All-State selection by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution and the Associated Press out of Douglass High School in Atlanta ... an Atlanta Journal-Constitution Georgia Top 150 selection ... earned a three-star rating from both Rivals.com and Scout.com ... ranked as the No. 14 outside linebacker nationally by ESPNU and No. 24 by Rivals.com ... Scout.com tabbed him as the No. 16 strong-side linebacker ... ranked 37th on Rivals.com postseason Georgia Top 75 ... ranked 131st on Scout.com's Southeast 150 list ... SuperPrep's No. 63 player in Georgia ... posted 110 tackles and 12 sacks as a junior ... made 125 total tackles as a senior with 13 tackles for loss and seven sacks ... coached by Kenneth Barrow ... chose the Crimson Tide over Auburn, LSU, Kentucky, Mississippi State and Louisville.

If anyone was wondering , we're using the measurables published by the UofA . They're probably no more reliable than most other listings but , it's supposedly somewhat "official" .

It sure bodes well for our recruiting at linebacker that Atchison comes in at #19. I love to see our weaknesses addressed with big time prospects like
Jonathan.
