Arrow TideFans 2009 Crown Jewel Countdown - #17 - WR Kenny Bell .

Share

Ratings system - http://www.tidefans.com/forums/recru...countdown.html

#17 - WR Kenny Bell 6' 1" 170
Rayville , LA
Coached by Bo Barton at Rayville high school .

TideFans consensus rating - 3.5
BET - 4
CS - 3.5
RTO - 3.5
LCN - 3.5

Recruited by Bo Davis and Nick Saban .
Kenny earned 3A first-team All-State honors in 2008 .
36th ranked WR by Scout.com
40th ranked WR by Rivals.com
47th ranked WR by ESPNU

Bell reeled in 46 catches as a senior for 816 yards and 9 scores .

Bell is a true speedster who appears to be the ideal type of athlete one seeks when looking to fill a need at the slot receiver position . While he is very fast , Kenny is also thin possessing a build similar to 2007 signee Darius Hanks . The difference though would be that Bell is taller which should allow him to add some much needed bulk . In his case , it will be necessary in order to survive the punishment dished out by SEC defenses . He's also quite shifty and has good acceleration making for a very dangerous threat in space . Kenny simply causes a lot of concerns when it comes to creating match up problems for opposing defenses . He's also a pretty talented return specialist . If Bell is able to comprehend the offense quickly enough , he does possess sufficient talent and skill to play early and possibly even often but , he would benefit greatly from a redshirt year dedicated to strength and conditioning . Kenny signed with the Tide over offers from Arkansas , Auburn , Florida , LSU , Michigan , Mississippi State and Nebraska .

*Academic concerns are in play .

I think this kid will be a hoss. I loved his Mom's interview on NSD.

Here's what I hope happens: someone steps up opposite of Julio to allow Maze to move back to the slot. Hanks steps up and rotates with Maze, allowing Bell to redshirt to back on some weight and let Javy graduate allowing Bell to join the mix at KR/PR, as well.

I'll second that.

Bell could develop into an electrifying playmaker before he's done at UA IMHO, but a redshirt year would do him well.

Yep, I was thinking that myself. I would like to see one of the upperclassmen step up opposite Julio but, of the new guys, I think Norwood has a chance to be the one.

I would love to see Maze in the slot where he can put some serious pressure on the D backs; something our offense needs badly.

Allowing Bell to redshirt will give him time to get stronger so he can fight off press coverage and maintain his great speed.

RTR!

Kenny Bell is a blazing fast, tall wide receiver that is a precise route runner with very soft hands and game breaking ability. I think as many others do that Bell will be a slot receiver at Bama. He is very good going across the middle where his quickness and speed allow him to gain separation from the defenders and his elusiveness makes him very dangerous after the catch in the open field. He needs to put on some weight between now and the time he gets on the field. I would not be surprised to see him gain a little weight and see some playing time in the slot WR rotation or on ST this season.
