re: What about DE Brandon Lewis at East Mississippi?
I really do not know, and I honestly cannot even recall the last time I read something on Lewis.
I do not know if he is on track to graduate, if he still plans to attend Alabama, or if we even still want him. Personally, though, I cannot help but wonder if the silence is effectively telling us all we need to know.
Obviously, things have changed a lot. When Lewis originally committed our defensive line was paper thin with little talent and almost no depth. Of course, though, by the time he arrives in 2010, it's going to be loaded like we haven't seen in almost 20 years, and you are going to have to be a stud just to have a chance at seeing meaningful playing time. I really do not think we need a JUCO defensive end prospect anyway, and I cannot help but wonder if Lewis could even really stand out among the group we will have here in 2010.
Just look at the defensive ends we will have on campus for the 2010 season:
* Damian Square
* Marcel Dareus
* Luther Davis
* Glenn Harbin
* Undra Billingsley
* Chris Bonds
* Darrington Sentimore
* Anthony Orr
* William Ming
That is nine guys right there, and that's not counting any 2010 guys we sign, nor is it taking into account the possibility that either Brandon Moore or Quinton Dial could end up at defensive end. And keep in mind we generally only have about a five man rotation at defensive end, anyway. Again, I'm just not sure I see Lewis fitting in...

I agree, I have not heard anything in a while about Lewis and Bama. He is listed on BOL as SDE with an Alabama offer. The other recruiting sites do not list him as a Bama prospect with an offer. I still have him listed in the Tide Fans 2010 Alabama Commitments and Prospects List as a DE prospect with an offer. It may be that he is not interested in Bama with all the competition. Also it is starting to look like the Lewis offer may not be committable.

Mods,
correct me if I am wrong, but as I recall Lewis actually qualified but there was
a snag with the NCAA Clearinghouse that cause him to take the JUCO route??
anyways, things might have been different for Lewis if he would have actually been on campus to contribute to the D-line.
That's correct. He was actually qualified but his ACT score was flagged because of the large increase in score from one test to the other. In other words, he was ineligible on a technicality.

Airborne Tider,
Thank you for the response! I felt bad for him then and I still do now with what happen. that is such a shame!!
I hope the Crimson ship has not sail on this young man...
Re: What about DE Brandon Lewis at East Mississippi?
I don't know how Lewis is performing in JUCO, but if he's still good, I say take him. We had zero pass rush, for the most part, last year, and we currently have to put Hightower with a hand on the ground or blitz a saftey or DB to put any real pressure on the QB. Speaking of pass rush, did anyone else who attended A-day notice Kerry Murphy in drills? He seemed amazingly athletic for his size. I saw him get to the QB (in drills) at least 4 times, and with a quickness.

Shades of the Redwood Forest of the Seventies, when we can talk about huge defensive linemen like this.
My wife met Bob Baumhower down here at Bob's new Wings Restaurant in Foley. When she shook hands with him, she said, she put her hand in the largest hand she had ever shaken hands with.
