The big name coming into Sunday's event was quarterback Phillip Sims (Chesapeake, Va./Oscar Smith), and the Alabama commit did not disappoint. Despite already being committed and widely considered one of the top quarterback prospects in the 2010 class, Sims came out in the poor conditions and competed. His size does not wow you on paper, but in person he is a good-sized kid who is at least all of his listed 6-foot-1 and carries a sturdy build. The comparison to NFL quarterback David Garrard in his evaluation is a very accurate one. He is one of those kids who you would not believe was still in high school unless someone told you; he even carries himself like a seasoned vet who has been at this for a while. He has good feet and looked very smooth going through drills. He did a good job of being able to quickly drop back and get set, throwing a nice ball with a good release. He displayed good accuracy, but did not show great zip on his passes like he did on film. (Some of that could be chalked up to working with a wet ball.)

Im sorry for saying this? I thought he was white?? I thought he was Phil sims son?
Hey but that is great and hope he does a great job?
I assumed he was Phil Sims son too. When I saw his photo I scratched my head and wondered where in the world I got that he was the son. Funny what we assume.
Two and half years ago I met Phillip Sims at Hickory HS (SkyHawks) in Chesapeake Va. It wasn't until I watched this video that I recalled the meeting. Young Sims was getting ready for a scrimmage game and I had been attending a conference nearby for the Navy that week. He and his DB were warming up and he walked over and ask me about my Polo BAMA shirt. Young Sims ask if I was a college recruiter. I explained I worked for the Navy but enjoyed Alabama Football since birth. We spoke for a good 15 minutes about the SEC and BAMA. It is a small world. I never imagined this young man would come to Alabama, not for a second. My wife is the one who clued me into the video. She ask me "Isn't Hickory HS in Chesapeake, the same place you spoke to two football players?"
I looked at the film then the light came on. Duhh. I still have the small HS Football Schedule for the Hickory Skyhawks I purchased that afternoon. I will see if I can get Phillip to sign it for me.

I am sure he will both remember and sign the schedule; cool story.

Can we delete this before the barners see it and make up another rumor?
The coaches running the event raved about quarterback Phillip Sims (Chesapeake, Va./Oscar Frommel Smith), an Alabama commit. Sims displayed smooth footwork and a cannon arm to go along with the savvy of a seasoned quarterback. Sims was unfazed by the NFTC coaches who watched every step he took Sunday. Instead, the Under Armour All-American went about his business and collected quarterback MVP honors.

I have thought that when John Parker Wilson enrolled early, and thereby got that extra spring practice in, it of course said several things. This young man is serious about learning the quarterback position at Alabama. It puts him way ahead of other QB's in his class. It says a lot for his high school coaches (Probst, master of the passing game, undoubtedly encouraged John Parker). It augers well for this man's future at Bama. Plus that, he is apparently more physically gifted as a passer than was John Parker. John Parker Wilson was rewarded for his diligence by his fellow players when he was elected permanent captain. Phillip Sims is on the right track.
