Heard about a 15 minute interview on 790 the Zone today. Not sure if it was live or taped. Vogler said he was visiting Alabama tomorrow, and spoke highly of Coach Smart. Said that he has had no contact with Auburn since March, and is not interested in playing in a spread offense. Also has not been offered by Georgia, which is surprising. He does have family connections with Miami and also plans to visit Oklahoma and LSU. Huge tight end prospect.

Vogler looks like he could be a terror from the TE position. Cautiously optimistic on this one.

I am a lot more than cautiously optimistic, this guy is coming to T Town.
I hate to count chickens before they hatch, particularly in the recruiting game, but I think Bard is right. If you are an Alabama fan, I believe there are plenty of reasons to be very optimistic about our chances with Vogler.
Aside from the fact that we have a major need for tight ends in this class, that we are heavily pursuing Vogler, and that Vogler is clearly very interested in Alabama, it just looks like a good fit. Georgia will not pursue him -- and he really will not be interested with them -- because they have absolutely loaded up on tight ends the past two years. Florida is also a no because of their spread option offense, and the same goes for Georgia Tech with the triple option. Furthermore, Tennessee does not seem to be a major player here, and he clearly has no real interest in Auburn. So where does that leave him? Exactly... Alabama.
The standard caveat is always that a lot can change quickly in the recruiting game, but right now I think the smart money is on Vogler ending up at Alabama.

Any ideas on Vogler's timetable for making a decision?
He is generally expected to make a late summer / early fall decision. The last time he mentioned it he talked of making an August or September decision, but admitted it could be a bit earlier or later depending on how things worked out. I would imagine we would know something at least by the middle of football season, and perhaps as early as late summer.
By the way, Vogler is in Tuscaloosa right now for the camp.

For all those asking about UGA, they have already told Vogler that they will not be offering a TE in this class.
Unless something drastic happens between now and February, Vogler will sign with Bama.

Just to add to that, last year UGA signed two highly-rated tight ends. Arthur Lynch was rated the #5 TE in the country by Scout.com, and Orson Charles was the #3 TE in the country, and was also a five-star. Furthermore, they also signed another tight end in the 2008 class, so they have no room for another prospect at that position.

One more point on Vogler. Columbus is far from a UGA town. There are a lot of UGA fans but there are more Auburn fans and almost as many Bama fans these days. Posted via Mobile Device

Very true. Brian had some very nice things to say about Bama on TI yesterday. It sounds [to me] like we have made a big impression on him. I get the feeling that we are in the lead for his signature.

I've been hoping for this one for months. Admittedly, the fact that I lived in Columbus during my High School years has a bit to do with it, but still, I'm hoping we get him. I also hope that the weaker areas of his resume (esp. downfield blocking) have improved or will improve.

According to Andrew Bone, Vogler is taking an unofficial visit this weekend to Oklahoma, and according to Bone the buzz going around is that it's really an Alabama v. Oklahoma race.
He's apparently pretty high on Oklahoma because of the tight ends they have put in the NFL, and you cannot blame him for that. Still, though, you have to like our chances here. You rarely see recruits go that far away, especially when they have just as big of a powerhouse a couple of hours away.
