Prattville receiver Corey Shelton won MVP honors after turning in a blazing 4.28, but was far from the only player to record a personal best on Saturday. Prattville quarterback Sam Gibson, an LSU commitment, clocked a 4.41; Prattville safety Nick Perry, an Alabama pledge, ran a 4.47; uncommitted Theodore linebacker C.J. Mosley turned in a 4.47; 6-foot-3 Vigor receiver Marvin Shinn, an Alabama commitment for the class of 2011, ran 4.49; and uncommitted Theodore defensive end Markeith Gaines ran 4.45
"That's the fastest I've run so far," said the 6-2, 212-pound Mosley, who has narrowed his recruiting choices to Alabama, Auburn, LSU and Stanford. "My last fastest was a 4.58."

I just like Nick Perry more and more. I was surprised about Sam Gibson gettng an offer from LSU, but his camp and combine performances certainly seem to show he's one heck of a prospect. As for CJ Mosley, I just hope we can lock this guy up. He's going to be a great LB. If he can keep that speed, and grow into his frame, he'll be one heck of a LB. I can really see him being vital part of out LB corps the next few years.

Coach Bryant, after announcing his retirement, was asked if he was dissappointed that an Alabama player had never won the Heisman Trophy while he was the coach. He said, "No!", and added, "At Alabama our players do not win Heisman Trophies, our teams win national championships."
I started to be facetious and ask, since Spanish Fort is actually on a hill overlooking Mobile Bay, were they running downhill?
Could the breeze from the water, and the beauty of the place, on a good-weather day, infuse energy into the runners? I suppose an expert on track would know if that were possible.
Otherwise, I question the stopwatch. I keep wondering when they are going to develop something like a laser beam-timer for all such events.
A Texas A&M fan, whose two sons both played WR in Houston, TX high schools, told me that he doubts that ANYONE really runs a 4.4. I don't agree with that at all, but I do wonder if forty times aren't skewed on occasion, just like heights and weights are. Recruits who are, say, 6' 3" and 240, have a way of becoming 6' 1" and 218, once they sign on the dotted line.
