I also think he is Bama bound. I also don't think Volger's decision will matter. OU, UNC, and UA have all added a top TE this summer. So who ever he picks he will be their 2nd TE for the 2010 class.

At the risk of being branded a troll, can one of the really informed folks on the board explain why Harrison is a priority this year.
Here's my thinking:
1. Limited scholarships
2. A tight end already in the books and more young ones in the previous classes.
3. He seems to be a tweener.
I know he's a legacy, (and I went to the same high school as his dad), but is he that good to take a scholarship at this point, with some many excellent players still in our sights?
Could his offer include a possible gray shirt? Or am I seriously under-estimating his value?

I can't answer your question but I can speculate that I don't believe CNS would offer a valuable scholarship unless he felt the recruit could contribute. He has already passed up on some good "legacies" (Humphrey for one).
This kid has some pretty good offers.
Maybe a grayshirt.....don't know. Maybe one of the mods can speculate on that.

Interesting question-- particularly since many would say those points apply to Wilson Love as well.
Obviously our staff knew that both Tyler and Barrett had football playing brothers. Therefore some understanding between the coaches and their families must have been reached or at least implied.
The understanding could have been if you come your brother comes.
Or maybe if you come and it looks like your brother can help the program he comes. Or, anything between those possibilities and the understanding that your recruitment has nothing to do with your brother. I believe one of the first two possibilities is likely.
The above notwithstanding, both Wilson and Harrison have a lot to recommend them. They both appear suited for the TE position which, even with Vogler, is probably still a position of need. Both are decently rated. And, if they are like their brothers, both are intelligent, hard workers, and of seemingly impeccable character. Thus, there is probably meaningful playing time in both their futures.
Gray shirts do appear a possibility. Also, I still do think it's at least possible Harrison could opt for a program like Duke where he is likely to play earlier.
I hope he commits to Bama. I believe he will prove himself a wonderful asset to the team.

BM,
Thanks for the thoughtful response.
Only the staff knows what the staff is thinking, but you can never have too much character on a team.
With the family ties, with his father and brother, and the need for another TE in this class, I think its most likely that Harrison will choose Alabama over North Carolina.

Coach Bryant, after announcing his retirement, was asked if he was dissappointed that an Alabama player had never won the Heisman Trophy while he was the coach. He said, "No!", and added, "At Alabama our players do not win Heisman Trophies, our teams win national championships."

We lose Colin Peek and that leaves only Smelley and Dial as true pass catching threats. Underwood is unknown at this point. This is not to day that Williams or Billingsley can't develop into a threat. It just seems that the coaching staff wants to add two TEs in this class. Posted via Mobile Device
