With the departure of Kirschman and Cardwell, Bama currently has 72 scholarship players returning. That is counting all four of the January enrollees – Kerry Murphy, Jermaine Preyear, James Carpenter, and Chance Warmack. With Warmack and Carpenter already on campus, Bama can bring in 23 more players for the signing class of 2009. Add those two numbers together, and you get 95 – which is 10 too many.

Last year and so far this year the "process" has worked seemingly without engendering anger or hard feelings. With 10 more spaces to open up, I, like you, wonder how it can be done. And more particularly, how it can be done while avoiding acrimonious feelings on the part of some players and their families.
I really hope the plan to do so is eminently feasible and is on schedule.

Expect some more attrition, a few grayshirts, a couple of non-qualifiers, and maybe a few currently on scholarship paying their own way. Two or three in each of those categories gets you to 10 real quick.
We went through this exact same thing last year. The talking heads and the hand-wringers were in full bellowing voice. Everything worked out fine, with one or two to spare for former walkons. I expect the same this year.
Whatever the plans, I guarantee Saban, the players and their families are on one page.

THAT is what I really hope for in this case. I know Coach Saban has a plan but if he can keep all the players and their families all happy.....he is a genius!!!!
From looking at the past that certainly appears to be the case.
Bowman finally got his good news on Thursday, and all that confidence he maintained throughout the arduous process was suddenly validated.
"They finally gave me a date [on when he would know]," Bowman said. "And they ended up getting everything straightened out. It was one of the best feelings of my life."

He claims to be 6'5", 220 lbs currently and the coaches told him to lay off the weights. It's clear they want him to be a big WR and not a TE right now. The potential is there....just wait until he has to run the 26 110s.
Wow he's grown a inch and put on 15lbs and hopfully he can still run a 4.5 forty. Watched some video on him and his hands looked as big as a catchers mitt. Glad to have you aboard Michael.
