Holy crap. I thought the same thing when I saw his picture. He looks like he pushing 40.

Anyway, if he's good enough for Coach Saban he's good enough for me. Good size kid.

... it looks like Strauss is being offered as a 2010 grayshirt. If he commits to Alabama then he will sit out the 2010 season and come in with the 2011 class and his scholarship will count toward the 2011 class ...
... i'm reading that he will graduate in dec 09 and possibly enroll early

how will this work with a greyshirt offer?

anyone?

He'd probably have to pay more of his own way. Good news for him is he could probably pick up a graduate degree by the time his football eligibility runs out.

... i guess i'm thinking the only reason to enroll early is to be there for spring training and as i understand it, a greyshirt cannot be a part of team activities

is that correct?

Hm. I really don't know what to say about this one... I guess Saban is not happy with our current depth at QB, which is obviously the most important position, and it's hard to blame him.

How good is this kid though? Why Tennessee hasn't offered?
Not happy with the depth at QB? Huh?

We have McElroy for another 2 years, AJ and Star and Darrah bettling it out after that, and one of the most impressive QBs in the country committed for 2010. Maybe Strauss is being recruited to play another position, but after what we've been through the last decade, I can't think of a better field of depth at the QB position.

Warm bodies don't necessarily equal depth. There are a lot of unproven players there. It never hurts to add more QB's in the mix b/c you don't know how a HS QB will do at the college level.

I'm not saying they won't work out. Just saying you never know.

grayshirt huh? i was under the impression that C.J. Uzomah, the teammate of Austin Sheperd and JuWuan James, was going to be our man at qb in next year. or is he being looked at for another position? BET, mods, could you shed some light on this?

Well, Saban is going to play the most "ready" QB using his criteria. If that means for a few years, it just happened to be the guy with the most seniority, then you might as well get used to having an unproven QB when the starter finishes his eligibility.

I think that in most cases, Saban will be adding at least 1 QB every year. That may not happen all the time, but it is the most likely scenario (IMO). I'm not worried about this. Even if CJM is Strauss' main recruiter, he wouldn't be recruiting Strauss if Saban didn't approve of it.

That's not exactly what I meant. You are going to get players that are a bust. It's gonna happen. I'm just saying it doesn't hurt to get another QB in there if you've got a scholly just in case.

I had exactly the same question.

I did see the Byrnes from Duncan, S.C. at North Gwinnett game last year. I swear I don't remember C. J. Uzomah even playing. However he has the measurables, has an offer, and should not be too hard to get with James and Shepherd already here.

Maybe things will come clear as the H.S. season progresses.

He also has an awesome name, which as I'm sure everyone here knows, is how you build a Championship caliber team.

Re: QB Michael Strauss a Tulane commit now has a Bama offer

As BET stated Strauss would likely come in as a greyshirt because he has the potential to mature into a good QB and it will be tough to get a highly recruited QB in the 2011 class. He doesn't really fit any other position.

C.J. Uzomah was offered as an athlete and could play a few different positions. He is very high on Bama.
