QB Michael Strauss a Tulane commit has an Alabama offer. He is still committed to Tulane and he said he will visit Bama this fall. Even though he says he is still committed to Tulane and that he is a solid verbal to them, if he in fact visits Bama technically that will make him a soft commit. I am going to go ahead and list him in the prospect list.
Just when you think you have the class QB situation figured out it changes. That is the way recruiting goes nothing is constant but change.
Re: QB Michael Strauss a Tulane commit now has a Bama offer
Hm. I really don't know what to say about this one... I guess Saban is not happy with our current depth at QB, which is obviously the most important position, and it's hard to blame him.
How good is this kid though? Why Tennessee hasn't offered?
Re: QB Michael Strauss a Tulane commit now has a Bama offer
This makes no sense. We have the top rated Simms and another well accomplished Sims already committed as QB (and ATH, respectively). It has to say something about both of those guys, but what?

He looks like an extra from "Taxi" or "Welcome Back Kotter"
This is an odd development indeed. Guess Blake Sims will for sure not be looked at as a QB. Color me skeptical. This is the same type of recruit we'd take jabs at Auburn for getting a commitment out of. Not to knock him because I've never seen any film or anything on him, but it's the truth. I guess the staff sees something no one else does. I'll be keeping an eye on this one.
Re: QB Michael Strauss a Tulane commit now has a Bama offer
Well the details are coming out and it looks like Strauss is being offered as a 2010 grayshirt. If he commits to Alabama then he will sit out the 2010 season and come in with the 2011 class and his scholarship will count toward the 2011 class. This is the same situation that John Parker Wilson took when he signed with Bama. Apparently Strauss is seriously interested and considerng the offer.

Did he camp at Bama?
Yes he camped at Bama and performed very well obviously. I remember reading an article about Strauss after he left the Bama camp and he sounded really confident that Bama was going to offer him. Then he committed to Tulane shortly thereafter and that was the last I heard about him until today when this offer news came out.

Re: QB Michael Strauss a Tulane commit now has a Bama offer
I see Jim McElwain is recruiting him. That probably has A LOT to do with it. It's "scratch your head" picks like this that can turnout to be wonderful. It might have more to do with what CJM saw in this kid rather than what he isn't seeing with the other players on campus right now.

Re: QB Michael Strauss a Tulane commit now has a Bama offer
Based on his Rivals film, he reminds me A LOT of Nick Fanuzzi -- very similar size, arm strength and even release (good on size, so-so on the others). I only watched one of his two clips, and I didn't see any scrambles or runs.
Looking at his stats, he was very efficient and productive (71% completions, 3,000+ yards, 32 TD, 11 INT).
All in all, he strikes me as someone who would be on the radar screen, but probably wouldn't get an offer. I guess he really impressed at camp.

So technically, we can basically go ahead and add him to the 2011 class with Shinn and Calloway.
I follow recruiting fairly closely, but not in depth enough to be looking a year ahead all that much. Anyone know what the crop of QB's looks like next year? And how does this guy stack up?
Re: QB Michael Strauss a Tulane commit now has a Bama offer
Ah, I like this one, honestly. Strauss has a good frame and nice raw physical tools to boot. He's posted good production, too, albeit at a lower level of competition. So, you bring him in as a greyshirt, and you give him years and years to develop. I fail to see how doing that would be a mistake. Besides, realistically speaking, with Jackson, McCarron, and Sims on campus this December, it's going to be extremely tough to recruit a top QB in the 2011 class anyway.
And hell, if history teaches anything, the big three recruits will end up as busts and this kid will be the one that starts, lol.
Seriously, though, I imagine it'll be a tough decision between 'Bama and Tulane. The Green Wave is terrible in football, but he made a commitment already, and in all fairness it's a great school, plus he'd basically get immediate playing time. And if he comes to 'Bama he'll probably have to greyshirt and he'll be last in a long line of players vying for playing time. It'll be a tough decision for him, I just hope he does what is best. I won't be complaining, though, if he ends up with Tulane.
