The Birmingham News' 2009 Super Seniors: # 9 WR Solomon Patton

Share

Super Senior No. 9: Murphy's Solomon Patton is small, fast and sticking with the Gators - Sentelligence - al.com
Quote:
Solomon Patton is fast. As far as understatements go, that ranks right with the fact there might be a few people in this state willing to wait in line for the signature of a few members of their favored college football team.

The Super Seniors 2009 tour clicks a lot of miles off the odometer and the Murphy senior stands out. He's made a pledge to the Florida Gators for a variety of reasons. He took a very logical approach to where he fit best. He looked at schemes and depth charts and soon-to-be graduating upperclassmen when making his decision.

Eh, I get where you are coming from, but this one doesn't really bother me. I imagine he'll probably do pretty well there, but in all honesty we only had room for one signee in this class to fill the particular role that Patton would have filled, and we filled that nevertheless with Grant. Truth be told, I imagine had we gotten Patton we would not have gotten Grant, and vice versa.

And actually, call me a homer if you wish, but I like Grant a bit better, and I think our staff was a bit higher on him than Patton, so it works well for me. In early April, I openly questioned on here whether or not Patton had a firm offer, and while it looked like we did turn up the heat on him a bit in the following weeks, I'm not sure he was ever a huge priority for us. Again, we had one spot to give to a player like Patton, and we got a very good one. As I said previously, and I'll reiterate now, I don't really think it made much difference as to whether it would have been Patton, Grant, or someone else with a similar skill set.

I agree. I like Grant more than Patton as well. They both have the speed, but Grant is bigger and fits our scheme much better than Patton would have IMHO.
