A look at Bama's commitments and targets: Athletes

Share

Commitments: 2

Blake Sims- Sims plays QB for his school, but the 6'1", 180 lb athlete appears to be headed for another skill position in college. Early indications were that he was headed for the defensive backfield when he committed to Bama. However, his senior season is proof that he may be too good with the ball in his hands to place on the defensive side of the ball. The Tide's willingness to run the "Wildcat" is further proof that the Tide could use an athlete with experience throwing the ball to run it. Regardless, his athleticism will make an excellent addition to the team, whether on offense of defense.

Wilson Love- the jumbo athlete was destined for TE until he put on some solid weight this offseason. Reports now claim that Wilson is around 6'4", 270 lbs. With that being the case, Love could end up at defensive end, tackle, or even offensive guard if the growth keeps up. A hard worker like his brother, Wilson plays with a mean streak.

Targets:

Keenan Allen was mentioned in the offensive thread, though it is conceivable he could end up on either side, as a WR or as a safety.

Short and sweet. Defense coming soon.

I wouldn't mind at all if Blake Sims ends up on offense. He's got outstanding change-of-direction ability, even if his straight-line speed isn't the greatest.

He reminds me a lot of B.J. Scott -- similar running ability, played a lot of QB, will have a lot to learn at WR. But, um ... considering that B.J. is now a DB, I don't know how to take that.

Blake will play offense. BJ had All-World type potential as a DB coming out of HS. Even Coach Saban said so and wanted him on D. But he promised BJ would get his shot on offense and he did. Now BJ is where he probably belonged from the get go and is learning the system. He will likely get a redshirt year to do just that. He will be a outstanding DB for us in the near future.

That's exactly what I was hoping for with B.J. It was looking like we were going to have essentially wasted two years of eligibility for a high-caliber athlete. In high school, he looked like he could have been a good receiver ... he looked like he could be a great DB. I don't have any reason to doubt that he will be.

Re: A look at Bama's commitments and targets: Athletes

CNS told Blake Sims that he thought he could contribute at almost any skill position. Sims said he prefers offense and he would like to play WR, kick returner or RB but he is willing to play whatever positon Coach Saban wants him to including DB. I think he would be amazing Slot WR or taking snaps in the Wild Cat formation.
