Gabe King missed South Eugene’s loss at North Medford Friday and he could be lost for the season with a torn lateral meniscus in his knee, South coach Travis Johnson told me this morning. King is planning to get a second opinion but he will likely need surgery that could end his season.
King, a 6-foot-5, 265-pound senior rated as one of the top defensive ends in the nation, played only one game for South Eugene against Willamette. He transferred to South last month after being declared ineligible to play in North Carolina due to questions regarding his residency.
Quick update on the injury with a better prognosis.
South Eugene coach Travis Johnson said he talked to King’s mom this morning and she said the latest from doctors is that “his meniscus may not be able to be repaired and if it can’t, they would go in and clean it up and he could be back in two weeks”.
That would mean King could be back in time to play Sheldon on Friday, Oct. 30.

Hate to hear that, hopefully he does get a chance to play and maybe play some All star games. I read a few weeks ago how happy he was when he actually got to play his senior year

Coach Bryant, after announcing his retirement, was asked if he was dissappointed that an Alabama player had never won the Heisman Trophy while he was the coach. He said, "No!", and added, "At Alabama our players do not win Heisman Trophies, our teams win national championships."
I played a whole season on a torn lateral and medial meniscus my junior year of high school. It was painful to say the least. After the season they gave me an MRI (this was a while back so I can't remember why it wasn't done before the season) and later determined surgery was necessary.
It really hampers one's lateral mobility. For a DE, I'd say that's pretty essential (I was a DT at the time). However, after surgery and about a 3 month rehab, my senior season went rather smooth (changed to OG) and my knee still works just fine.
Defensive end Gabe King's knee injury likely not season-ending ESPNU 150 prospect Gabe King (Eugene, Ore./South) did not play last Friday due to a torn meniscus in his left knee. Originally thought to be season-ending, it now appears King could return by the end of October, the Oregonian reports.
"There's now a chance he'll be back," coach Travis Johnson said. "We're more hopeful. He's such a tremendous kid who wants to do what's best for the team."
Oregon, California and Alabama are still the primary schools in the mix for King.
My impression is that the coaching staff is not actively recruiting any dlineman. I don't have any positive info to back this up. CS, do you have any info or opinion on the matter?

Bama is actively recruiting DL and especially DE Gabe King. See the prospect list sticky at the top of the board for the top prospects.

I was looking at the Rivals board and where they have the schools listed at the top right of the page I see he has Auburn listed as on of the schools. But down at his choices we are still listed.
My question is if we are not on the top of the page in his choices, are those who he is high on?
