How is Nick Saban landing so many out-of-state recruits this season?
-- Jerry from Burlington, N.C.
Alabama reached into Texas for Rivals100 WR DeAndrew White.
Alabama is rolling with another top-10 recruiting class. Of the Crimson Tide's 21 commitments, 13 are from out of state. That tells me a few things.
First, it's a good year in the state of Alabama, but it's not what we have seen the past two years. The Tide cleaned up the past two years in Alabama, which was absolutely loaded with talent, landing five-star standouts like offensive tackle D.J. Fluker, wide receiver Julio Jones, cornerback Dre Kirkpatrick and linebacker Nico Johnson, as well as a plethora of super-talented four-star prospects. Alabama dominated recruiting within the state, but that's going to get a little tougher because of the new regime at Auburn. We are already seeing a little dent from the Tigers.

First he says talent is down, which is why Alabama is branching out, then he says Auburn has put a "dent" in our in-state dominance? Which side of his mouth should we believe?
Craig Sanders decommitted because we picked up someone higher on our board. Craig is one of the higher ranked prospects in the state this year. He went to Auburn by default. I think that says all we need to know.
As a side discussion, does going out of state so heavily this year impact our dominance in the state? Can this tactic be used against us when the upper tier talent returns?

It's funny how they keep saying the barn's new staff is starting to put a dent into our in-state recruiting, it must be really small, because I sure can't see it!

They gotta throw the barners a bone every once in a while. They already have a complex, as it is.

Kinda harsh seeing as a lot of the "left overs" bleed Crimson. Not like the good old days when you could have almost an unlimited number of recruits.
The truth hurts, huh?

Re: Rivals.com Jamie's Mailbag: 'Bama branching out
It's a given we will lose out on some kids who want to play early but because of our depth, will likely redshirt. Other schools like the Barn and Viles can use that carrot. Of course, we all know Coach Saban's philosophy that if you are good enough you play no matter whether freshman or senior. This may intimidate some kids who are not sure they are good ENOUGH to break in as a freshman.
