Those of you with first hand knowledge or experience, would you share how much influence the outcome of a game might have on a recruit's decision to commit to the school he is visiting? What I'm curious about are the close/tight games, not necessarily the blow outs. Or the games where the visiting school loses the game.
Hope it is ok to ask this, just trying to understand the process from the kids perspective, many thanks!

I doubt the outcome of one game has that much of an effect on a recruits decision. It's more about how the team plays throughout the season, unless the recruit is just looking for a place to start right away. It's different however for every single recruit. Posted via Mobile Device

The atmosphere can certainly have an impact, especially if its their first college game, as it was for a lot of the 2011 and 2012 prospects that were on hand.

Agreed.. I just thought he was asking more about outcome/results of one game. Posted via Mobile Device

If the outcome of the game is a factor, then the close game with UT helped us. Recruits get excited when they visit. The more the surroundings come alive the better the visit. The atmosphere all game was great, but imagine being a teenager in BDS when Cody blocked that last FG and the place erupted. You know any recruit there had to be excited. They have never heard anything like that.
Now they are back home thinking what it would be like when they have that big play at UA.

I was watching a special on LSU last night and their was several players that said the atmosphere in Death Valley was so hyped up and crazy they knew they wanted to play there before they ever left the stadium. There was a couple of guys with this same feeling after being at BAMA games....James Kirk automatically named us his leader after his visit during the SC game. I'd say the atmosphere is a HUGE deciding factor for many kids. As for the original question I think it depends on the type of player. I think you have to factor in that many guys want to play for a winner and that's it so losing the game they are visiting could be damaging. OTOH you have "players" who might look out there on the field at a loss and say ,"you know what if I were out there at DE or LB or DB (or whatever) I would have stopped that play and won that game. What if I was playing DT and this crowd just went crazy after I blocked that kick." I am not saying that I would not take the former type of player, but I would rather have the latter, the "player", the guy who feels he could better the team and make us that much better. Either way I think it all comes out in the wash anyway. Win or lose in those close games it is hard not to feel the excitement of 100,000 screaming SEC fans erupt, like I said some guys make their minds up that instant, the feeling of the very ground shaking non-stop beneath you, isn't something you forget easily.

Sorry, didn't see these replies last night, watched the Monday night game and fell asleep....
OK, sounds like Atmosphere has more influence than the outcome (I know broad statement) but atmosphere would be a leading factor, concerning attending a game.

Tiberius was an insane, perverted, maniacal Roman emperor. His rule eventually became so bad that he exiled himself. He was the great uncle of caligula. I never fully understood why they gave kirk that middle name.

I think the only way the outcome of the game would affect the recruit is if he hung out with the team after the game and the players were down and negative. Recruits don't want to see disappointment and a defeatist attitude.
