The news on this is just breaking, and found this one interesting:
Quote:
Sophomore running back Darrell Scott informed his coaches Tuesday afternoon of his intent to leave the University of Colorado football program.
Head coach Dan Hawkins said Scott, a 6-foot-1, 220-pound tailback from Ventura, Calif., is leaving for assorted personal reasons and assumed he would be transferring closer to his Southern California home.
You recruiting junkies will remember Scott very well from the 2008 class. He was a five-star tailback, and Scout.com had him as the #1 tailback in the country. He shocked everyone by spurning Texas for the Buffs, and he was easily the most high profile recruit of the Hawkins era.
Just goes to show you, no matter how highly-touted you are, being a bust is always a legitimate possibility. Best of luck to him at UCLA. It just goes to show you the importance of signing with the right program out of high school.
And as an aside, this may be the death knell for Dan Hawkins. That entire fan base is in complete and total meltdown mode right now. No way he's in Boulder come 2010.

Re: Colorado RB Darrell Scott Will Transfer to UCLA
I've watched a couple of Colorado games this season, and I was wondering what had happened to him. This is the second high profile runningback to not pan out at Colorado this decade. I guess he should have ended up Texas when he had the chance. With their lack of running game, they might could have used him at this point.

Bust.

I read somewhere that Scott is following his uncle to UCLA. I think his uncle transfer to UCLA this past summer.

Re: Colorado RB Darrell Scott Will Transfer to UCLA
two thoughts on this
Scott is still a heck of a back. Hawkins and Co had no idea how to use him effectively and their O line can't figure out how to block. If he goes to UCLA, after sitting out a year he will be a beast for Nueheisel
Hawkins may make it through 2010. I have read that he has a huge buyout and Colorado is so strapped for funds that they may have no choice but to keep him one more year.

Agreed. Scott is a good back, just not utilized properly and plays behind an ATROCIOUS line. I expect him to be a key piece of the rebounding of UCLA under Nueheisel.
Re: Colorado RB Darrell Scott Will Transfer to UCLA
I also think he's actually pretty good.
I don't make a habit of watching CU play, but I caught their game against Toledo (I think one of the few games he's gotten significant carries in) earlier this year and Scott looked head and shoulders above the rest of their offense. They couldn't maximize his abilities in that game though, because their defense was letting Toledo score rapidly nearly every time down so they had to play "catch up."

BET, you are spot on about the fans - no one in these parts is happy with the performance of Hawkins. But, I think there's no way CU fires him after this year due to the high buy-out on his contract. We're stuck with him for at least another year.

Dan Hawkins might keep his job as head football coach at Colorado regardless of how bad things get this season because the athletic department cannot afford the buyout if it fired him, let alone any additional expenses in hiring a replacement.
Hawkins' contract contains a clause limiting the school's liability to $850,000 per contract year if it should terminate him without cause. Hawkins would have more than three years remaining if he was fired at any point this season. His contract runs through Jan. 31, 2013.
The school's total liability could approach $3 million under the terms of the deal if any partial year was prorated in a buyout. If the buyout was limited to three years, it would cost CU no more than $2,550,000.
This is not a surprise to see Scott bolt the CU program. The only reason they were able to pull him in was due to his uncle Josh Smith being on the team. As soon as Smith transferred, it was really only a matter of time.
Scott is a good player, but he is stuck on a terrible team, and has had some bad injury luck to boot. I believe he will be a good player for UCLA.

I've read all of that before, and honestly I'm just unconvinced. We seemingly here that same line half of the time a major program goes to fire a coach, but somehow they find a way to make it work. Who knows? Maybe he'll "resign" like Tubby did last year, we'll see. Either way, I'm still expecting someone else to be in Boulder come 2010.
In any event, though, I'll agree with the aforementioned posters who had positive things to say about Scott. He's a talented kid who will probably do well at UCLA. Nevertheless, though, he was a bust for the Buffs, and once again it just goes to show the importance of signing with the right school.
