Ask Anybody parking in the Marine Corps League rv lot?

Share

Just curious. Has anybody reserved a space in this lot for this year or in the past? A friend reserved a space for the UThug game. I didn't even know there was a lot there for rv's.

Re: Anybody parking in the Marine Corps League rv lot?

For the past several years I have tailgated on the quad or over near Calvary church, where my family are members. But this fall I'll be tailgating at the MCL RV Camp as a member of the on site volunteer staff.

Several months back, an article ran in the Tuscaloosa News about the RV's being moved off the hill in downtown Tuscaloosa. Towards the end of the lengthy article was a few sentences quoting the owner of the old TMC properties, who mentioned that he would be open to finding a non-profit group to park RV's on the site.

The Commandant of the local MCL detachment picked up on that, a contact was made, and long story made short -- the end result is the Marine Corps League providing a valuable service to a contingent of displaced RV'ing fans, and to others who wish to park there.

If someone does not mind catching the trolley to the stadium, the location (near the River Walk and the downtown amenities) is perhaps the best location in town.

Will we see you there?

Unfortunately, I didn't find out about it until I had already made reservations through the new gameday group. I really like that location since we usually frequent a couple of establishments around the corner
I will probably do that next year unless I can get a spot reserved the entire season this year & get someone to buy my spot in lot 9 on University.

SIAP: Old Chevrolet lot open for RV parking

Old Chevrolet lot open for RV parking

By Robert DeWitt
Staff Writer

RV owners interested in the Old Tuscaloosa Chevrolet car lot can call 800-817-0753 or visit www.tuscaloosamarines.org.

TUSCALOOSA | Members of the Crimson Tide RV nation have a new place to park.

The Tuscaloosa-based Johnny Micheal Spann Detachment of the Marine Corps League will be renting spaces in the Old Tuscaloosa Chevrolet car lot at the corner of Jack Warner Parkway and Greensboro Avenue to recreational vehicles during the 2007 University of Alabama football season, said Senior Vice Commandant Ray Looney.

The league will use the fees it collects to help pay for community projects like Toys for Tots and Wounded Warriors.

“The location is nice, right there on the river," Looney said. “You have the shuttle coming right there to pick them up."

Demolition crews are tearing down the buildings on the old car lot, and the work should be done within two weeks, Looney said. After that, Marine Corps League members must line off parking spaces. Looney anticipates the lot will provide parking for about 150 recreational vehicles.

“We want this to be a first class place for these folks," Looney said. “We want them to feel welcome and safe and be good ambassadors for Tuscaloosa and the university. We want them to have a good time."

The parking provides a welcome replacement for recreational vehicle owners who lost parking in the old CityFest lot at University Boulevard and Greensboro Avenue. Downtown businesses complained that the RVs were taking up spaces customers would use.

RVs can still park in the Barbecue Lot, immediately north of the former CityFest Lot and in the River Road Sports Complex parking lot. The Barbecue Lot will accommodate about 40 RVs while the sports complex parking lot will hold about 65 RVs.

The University of Alabama has about 1,450 RV parking spaces available on campus. But RVs parking on campus can’t arrive until 6 p.m. Friday.

“The significant thing for the folks who want to park with us is that they can arrive on Wednesday," Looney said. “I think we’re the only RV parking that is allowing them to arrive that early."

All RVs must leave the lot by sunset on Sunday.

The League parking lot will offer 20-by-40 foot parking spaces at $500 a season with a $100 extra charge for a towed car. But the organization is also renting single-game spaces for $150 with a $50 fee for towed vehicles.

“LSU fans, Tennessee fans and Georgia fans come into town just for that game," Looney said. “We can accommodate those single-game people."

While the lot targets motor homes, towed camper trailers and their towing vehicles that fit into the spaces are also welcome. The lot has no water, sewer or electricity. There are no plans to provide water and sewer but there is a possibility that electricity will be available to a limited number of spaces, Looney said.

The league is working with the Tuscaloosa Police Department, Tuscaloosa Fire and Rescue Service and other city agencies to comply with the regulations governing RV parking.

Re: SIAP: Old Chevrolet lot open for RV parking

Does anyone have an idea how many total RV spaces are available on gamedays? It was most interesting to see the quote of over 1,400 spaces available on campus. I didn't realize it was that high.

I'm just curious with all of the rumors floating around about Bruno's eventually shutting down the on-campus parking. I have my spot reserved in Lot 2 so we'll be parking there for the 3rd straight year.

BTW - I've been reading this site for many years but never had any interest in posting until this specific board was created. It finally convinced me to start replying. Thanks for creating.

I don't specifically know how many spaces there are, but I read somewhere there are around 240 in Coleman alone. W/ all the other spaces around town, 1400 sounds about right to me.

Glad to have you posting now instead of "lurking"

Re: Easter Seals West Alabama Offers RV Parking

Do you know if there is an option for individual games instead of the season pass? This would help lots of rv'ers, IMO.

Re: RV options for off campus parking...

As a quick note, we (the Tuscaloosa Marines) have recently updated the RV Parking page on our web site to accomodate the 2008 schedule, including the A-Day game on April 12.

And while I am on the topic, I want to note that we appreciated the awesome support and encouragement of the fans we met, and of web sites like this one during the last season. We could not have asked for or received a better show of support, or a better overall experience.

Nearly all of our detachment members are sports fans, but none of us had ever done anything quite like the RV lot. We met some really fine people whose cordial and cooperative attitudes was much more plesant to deal with than what some media reports had prepared us to face. There was some good natured jibbing and rivalry, but nothing unplesant or that even raised an eyebrow.

Our web site address is in my signature. Please feel free to take a look! And thanks again to all.

Re: RV options for off campus parking...

We called Marines lot for this weekend and realized they don't have hookups so are punting (probably parking behind Brunos). They also don't have hookups but a lot less expensive. Any suggestions on lots with hookups? Thanks. I'm on my way down tomorrow so will check here before I leave -- otherwise we'll be at Brunos.
