Received my renewal letter for rv parking at Coleman for next year,a $129 increase from the previous year.I don't know if I will renew.A lot of money for parking with no amenities. I guess the atheletic program is in a bind for money.

Re: coleman rv parking

Yep, recieved mine also. In addition to the increase you have to provide your tag number and they are no longer transferable. There are about 2 games a year I cannot attend due to other obligations. I know at the begining of the year and had the option to allow someone else to use my space..... But thanks to Bruno's Event Team, I can no longer transfer my pass.

Mad Re: coleman rv parking

It’s no secret that the eventual plan is to close Coleman to RVs and use it for car parking. Is the increase motivated by pure greed or is there something else behind it? There is no way they have an increase in expenses. With the exception of two or three people at the entrance they have no expenses. Could it be that they want to run off as many RVs as possible without making it look like RVs are no longer welcome on campus? What’s next; will the free lot at University Mall close? I called the number on my registration letter for further questions (205-262-2811) and got a recording for the “University hot line” to leave my name and a message and they would get back to me. The question I left was what justified the increase of $129 this year and the increase of $229 over the past two years in parking? I am sure I will get some BS answer if I get one at all.

Believe it or not, last time I called I actually received a return call the next day... Unfortunately though, since your question addressed an increase in parking fees I wouldn't hold my breath for a "prompt" response.

Honestly, I can see where all of this RV parking is going. Once they complete the lot/lots on the Bryce property I would expect them to move ALL RV PARKING there so they can keep us off campus. For some reason, there is a HUGE MOVEMENT to keep rv's off campus. I understand the need for more gameday parking on/near the stadium, but would it be such a bad idea to park cars on the edge of campus and bus people near the stadium. That way, you can keep SOME RV'ers on campus, some parking on campus & maintain the "Gameday" atmosphere as opposed to a Disney World parking lot atmosphere...
On a side note, why is it soooo hard to designate a bus only lane for routing passengers to/from the stadium??? I know they didn't have that 2 years ago, but I didn't pay much attention this past season. Did they finally do that?

Mad Re: coleman rv parking

I did get a call back from the “hot line”. After some stammering and stuttering I was told the increase in campus RV parking was to even up the price of RV parking with the cost of getting a tent on the Quad. The University felt that was the only fair thing to do and since a tent on the Quad cost $729 last year the price of RV parking should cost the same as tents on the Quad. I didn't think to ask at the time but isn't electricity provided with the cost of the tents on the
Quad? I was also told that I should be thankful that I was at a University lot and did not have to make the high dollar donations that Tide Pride members made to get a parking space in their RV lots. I guess the donations I have made to A+ and other fundraisers are insignificant to the University and in the future I will restrict my donations to those mandatory to ticket purchases. When I ask about the future for RV parking on campus he told me the Brice parking lot discussion was a Tide Pride project and not a University project. He said that much of the land in that area was swampy and would require expensive prep work for RV parking. He did not foresee the University lots closing. When I called I thought if I got an answer at all it would be BS and I politely informed him that while I appreciated the return call that his explanation for the increase was weak. I hope I am wrong but I still think the future for RV parking on campus is very bleak.

Re: coleman rv parking

Did anyone other than us notice how empty the Coleman lot has been the last two years? I have't seen a full lot in several years. We have come to the conclusion that they are'nt selling all of the spots because they keep telling my friends there are no vacancies.

That is, without a doubt, the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard. Honestly, I am beginning to think the gameday group is a bunch of 3rd graders.
Yes the tents do include power, but to be honest, how can they justify that logic??? The tents should probably be cheaper & the rv'ers deserve more for the money. I should probably get off my soapbox now before my blood pressure starts to rise...

You are not wrong about that unfortunate fact...I have conducted business with the crimson ride group in the past & they have said that the long term plan is to have as few vehicles as possible on campus. Including gamedays & special events.

Mad Re: coleman rv parking

I just blew a gasket and called the hot line number and left a message demanding to know when they were going to provide electricity to Coleman RVs. It's is the only fair thing to do since we pay the same price as the people who rent the tents on the quad with electricty furnished for the price of $729. I can't understand why more people aren't mad about this. I bet I don't get a return call this time. I think I will e-mail Mal Moore and tell him how I feel. I may not be one of the big money people but I have been on the Cruising with the Tide and made donations to A+ but in this economy any disposable income I have in the future will go for parking and tickets.

Big A Re: coleman rv parking

Lets face it, we will pay what ever they charge. Nobody has more fun anywhere on campus than we do in the RV lots. I hated to pay the extra charge this year but pay I did. What else are we going to do, pitch a tent on the quad???
In the RV lots we turn a 3hr game into a 3 day party, where else could we do that?
