Comin' Home

Share

Hi all, I'm currently residing in Boise, Idaho but was raised in Alabama. Haven't been back in about 30 years and will be comin' home for the Bama/LSU game and the Amp500 at Talledega. (My wife asked what I wanted to do for my 50th birthday on the 1st of August, and I said delay till this game and let's hit the South). Just wonderin' about some of the resturants and such in the area since it's been so long. Any help or suggestions would be fantastic.
Thanks,
Scott

Re: Comin' Home

30 years...looks like you are in for quite an "eye-opening" return.

There are plenty of good/great restaurants. The more obvious ones are Dreamland, Archibald's, Wayfarer for breakfast, Cypress Inn, Chuck's, and so on and so forth. I'm sure you will get plenty of suggestions.
Obviously the Bryant Museum is a must. I would really suggest you take the time to take a tour (walking or riding) of the campus. You will definitely be surprised to see how much it has changed.

IMO, the #1 thing you need to do is get up early on gameday and take in the new "Gameday" experience. Marching band entry into the stadium, "Walk of Champions", and tailgating on the quad. Tailgating on the quad has become an event in and of itself. If you do not have any plans yet or just want to visit, let me know & I will be more than happy to let you know where our tailgate is located on the quad. You are more than welcome.

Bottom line...things are going to be different than you remembered and hopefully ESPN Gameday will be there while we clinch the west again.

Re: Comin' Home

Be ready for a shock. If you haven't been back for 30 years the changes will be amazing. From the interstate going through the middle of town, to the malls and the changes to the campus good and bad.
