Portable Generator for RVing

What do you guys recommend as a portable generator for RVing / tailgating?

Also, is it possible to rent them or is it best to just bite the bullet and buy one?

Re: Portable Generator for RVing

I purchased a Honda Eu3000i from a local outdoor shop. I got it for $1700 last year. It is extremely quiet and on a full tank we can go also a full day without running out of gas. I top my off at night before bed and we can sleep as long as we want with out worrying about the power going off. I have also used it at the house when severe weather comes in early spring to keep the a few fans and television running until it is restored. It also has an inverter on it so you can run all your laptops, television, and all the other sensitive electronics you may have. I love it and would recommend it to anyone. I know they have come out with a new for this year that has wheels and an easy lift handle. However, the new one has a smaller gas tank and doesn't run half a long as the original. If you have a camping world near you they have great deals on Honda generators.

Re: Portable Generator for RVing

Definitely bite the bullet and go with either a Honda EU series or the Yamaha inverter series generator. If it's for tailgating you can get a EU1000i pretty reasonably and run a tv, receiver, lights and other electronic equipment. If you need to run the RV, it's gonna take more than that...how much depends on if you will run the AC, microwave, etc.
Definitely go with the inverter style generators. They are quiet, don't use much gas and are way more portable.

One other thing... check out rv.net and search their forums for inverter generators. There are VERY GOOD threads analyzing the pros/cons and some other brands that are available.
