Here are just a few prospects worth mentioning or new info:

Quarterback:

Tim Tebow- of course the rumors are swirling, now- it's the week of the Bama/UF game. I could see Tebow tipping his hand this week, then again I see him waiting til after the season, too.

Chris Smelley- CMS was at ACA this Friday to check him out. His numbers are phenominal, though most "half-empty" minded folks are quick to bring up the small level of classification he plays in. However, I like a lot of what I see and he would not be a "letdown" by an stretch of the imagination if we get him. I think he'd commit on spot with an offer.

Earl Alexander- possibly a WR, but wants to play QB. I think he gets moved wherever he goes, and it looks like it'll either be UGA or Bama, with Bama getting a slight nod at this point.

Running Back:

Mike Ford- 100% committed to the Tide and he'll likely be the only RB we take, unless LeSean McCoy or Chris Brown really want to come to T-town. Mike is tearing it up at Hargrave.

Full Back:

Sedderick Holloway- claims an offer and has Bama near the top.

Wide Receiver:

Tim Hawthorne- hot prospect with growing list of offers. I think he'll eventually narrow it down to Bama, LSU, UT, and UGA.

Earl Alexander- see QBs

Mike McCoy- tall, fast and athletic MS athlete. Bama, MS schools, Barn, and ISU are in the mix.

Anthony Jones- on campus for visit last week. Good playmaker.

OL:

David Ross- enjoyed visit and will be back for the UF game. Bama/Barn 50/50.

Andre Smith- no news is probably good news. Gut says he stays home with family.

Alex Stadler- will be on official visit for UF. Could decide soon. Biggest competition is Va Tech.

Tight Ends:

Michael Goggans- committed to UT, but was on campus last week. Will still take official to campus.

DL:

Jermarcus Ricks: really likes Bama despite family pulling him to the Barn. Will be close.

Markeeth Drummer- Mark Anderson type out of HS. Bama on top but if a FL school offers he stays.

Peanut Whitehead- if he stays in state, I think he heads our way with a good connection to the Castilles.

Linebackers:

Toryan Smith and AJ Jones- top 2 LBs remaining on Tide board. Both will take visits and both likely have Tide in top 2 or 3 b/c we jumped on them very early.

Tim Rawlinson- might have grade problems and might be why staff hasn't been all over him.

DBs:

Marquis Johnson and Marcus Udell- Maryland is feeding them garbage like they did with Chris Rogers last year about Bama. Both still are very high on the Tide.

JD Douglas- unlikely he will qualify, hence the reason Bama has been light on him.

Others, but I'll have to chime in later.

Tim Hawthorne: Insight on Recruiting
Hawthorne is ranked as the state’s second best prospect behind Huffman offensive lineman Andre Smith. Scout.com's four-star wide receiver talked about the advantages and disadvantages of being a blue-chip recruit and where he stands with his recruitment.

“A disadvantage for me would be all the calls I receive every day,” said Tim Hawthorne. “I have not narrowed down my list, therefore I have about thirty different schools calling me every night. One of the really cool advantages is I’ll have people come up to me or call me, and they will tell me they are my biggest fan. That’s really cool.”
Week Five: Deon Williams - Player of the Week and Mid-Season Player of the Year
This player led his team to the biggest upset of the year.

Deon Williams is one of the top performers in the state for 2005, and he had the opportunity to prove his ability Friday night against Hoover. Williams was a field general for the Tuscaloosa County Wildcats with 359 total yards against the Bucs. The Tuscaloosa County quarterback scored all six touchdowns in the thrilling 39-28 upset. Williams completed 21-31 for 247 yards through the air and added 112 yards on the ground scoring on runs of 29, 5, 9, 1, 21, and 1 yards.

Bama recruiting corner
Alabama's win Saturday not only set up a battle of undefeated teams this week, it also set the stage for one of the season's most important recruiting weekends when Florida visits Tuscaloosa next Saturday.

While top-priority recruits such as Tim Tebow are not expected until next week, there were several prospects in Tuscaloosa Saturday for the Arkansas game. Among the group was Homewood offensive lineman David Ross, who is considered one of the state's best prospects. Ross, No. 10 on the Mobile Register's Elite 18 of state prospects, is expected to sign with either Alabama or Auburn.

RB Chris Brown has us in his top three, with Arkansas and OU. I think Arkansas is fading, though.

Is Tim Tebow visiting Alabama this weekend?

Or is he just coming to watch the Gators?

He should get started now watching the Gators lose to Alabama from the winning sideline.

Tebow, Kirschman, and Haynes will all be here from Nease. Charlie K needs to start doing some recruiting for us here. We are going to have a lot of visitors this weekend. Anyone have a list thus far? I think I have heard:

A. J. Jones - official
Marquis Johnson - official
Alex Stadler - official
Quency Patrick - official
Andre Smith
Charlie Kirschman
Tim Tebow
Hunter Haynes
Tim Hawthorne
David Ross
Terrell Zachary (said in a recent interview that he wanted to come to this game)

I'm sure the regular Birmingham boys (Pharr, Higgenbotham, Davis) will all be there as well.

Wow, Surfer, even more big names.

Just read on BOL that Seddrick Holloway is hoping to make a visit this weekend from Tallahassee with teammate Craig Stevens.

The names just keep coming. It should be impressive for all these blue-chippers to get there and have the chance to meet each other and hopefully talk about a Bama win. Here's to Charlie Higgenbotham, Taylor Pharr, Andy Davis, etc. doing some extra recruiting for the Tide this weekend.

RECRUITING NOTEBOOK: Tide commitments dealing with injuries
It does not get any bigger for recruiting with a signature game in Tuscaloosa this weekend. Alabama and Florida are undefeated, and many are predicting this is as a glimpse of the SEC championship. Prospects will line the sidelines of Bryant-Denny Stadium before the game begins with several blue-chip players expected.

A few key targets for the Tide are using this game as a measuring stick for Alabama’s future success. In the event the Tide wins, a few of those prospects are expected to pull the trigger for Alabama.

Tim Tebow from Jacksonville (Fla.) Nease will travel to Tuscaloosa with teammate and Tide verbal commitment Charlie Kirschman. Tebow is clearly one of the Tide’s top targets, and is the No. 1 quarterback on Alabama’s recruiting board. Florida appears as the only school standing in the way for Scout.com’s five-star dual-threat quarterback’s signature. A win in Tuscaloosa over the Gators may boost the Tide’s chances.
Andre Smith: Talks Favorites
"I will definitely attend the game in Tuscaloosa this weekend," said Andre Smith. "The game is going to be a good game. Actually, I think it will be an extremely good game."

"I have not spoken to Alabama or Florida in a while. I think both teams have been doing really good this year. It's going to be an exiting game," Smith added.

Smith has remained with the same favorites naming Alabama, Auburn, Arkansas, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, LSU, Miami, Oklahoma, Tennessee, USC and Vanderbilt as all contenders for his signature in February.

Kinda disappointing Micah Johnson won't be on hand this weekend. We seem to be slipping away in the chace for him.

the only OFFICIALS I know of are Jones, Johnson and Stadler. All others are unofficials, but that could change.
There was a BOL article today on Quency Patrick where he said his top three schools were Alabama, Indiana, and Tulane and he said that he felt now was a good time to take his visit to Bama. It may not be an official, but I took it that way because he took an official to Indiana last week I think.

Sad to see only one fullback listed in the initial list. With TC a sr next year and the possibility of McClain going pro we're painfully thin there.

How strong are we looking with the FB mentioned and are there any others out there floating under the radar?

Holloway (the aforementioned FB) says that UK is recruiting him the hardest right now, but he has a Bama offer as well. UK is telling him they will let him play tailback, which I just don't see happening when he actually gets there, but whatever. I think we are in good standing with him, but my gut tells me that if one of the Florida schools makes a push, he'll stay in state. I don't know why I feel that way, but from reading the articles on him I just get that feeling.

I honestly don't know how big of a priority FB is for us right now. I could see a guy like Travis McCall going there eventually, as he is already a good blocker and obviously working as a TE is getting better as a pass-catcher. I agree that this is a very important position in this offense and needs to be addressed. Also, don't discount the possibility of perhaps Ali Sharrieff growing into a fullback at some point in time. He's a bit on the short side, but I don't think that makes a difference for a FB. And at 5'9, 208, he is already a pretty stout kid. Put on another 20 lbs to his frame, and you could have a nice FB in the Castille mold (won't be a McClain...who is?). Remember, he was an all-state LB, so he has the right mentality for blocking, etc.

Also, the latest article with quotes from Micah Johnson indicate that we are recruiting him as a FB, although at this point we have a lot of catching up to do with him. At this point it looks like a race between his hometown UK Wildcats (where his brother is on the team already), Michigan, and UGA. If we were able to make a push and snag this guy, our questions about FB would be answered immediately. He is a freak athlete at 6'1, 260 and solid as a rock. Could play MLB, DE, DT, FB, and even TB in a pinch. Truly a freak athlete.
