Re: New Discussion Thread on Possible Coaching Changes...

This is a bit o/t, but since the media, especially UTw grads, figure mightily in this mess, here is a bio snippet of one, on FoxSportsSouthwest:

She graduated from the University of Texas at Austin in May 2009 with a Bachelors in Journalism. Her work has appeared in various publications including New Orleans magazine and Austin Monthly and on several websites including MSN, FOX Sports and The Go-Getter Girls. Currently, she is hating how much success the Aggies are having.
(Emphasis mine.)

Currently, most of us are hating how much success the barn is having. Difference being most of us would have the sense not make it part of our bio. But, the shorthorns............................if only Colt hadn't got hurt....................

Anyway, perfect example of their mindset.

LOL, how low are there standards? Success? The aggies finished tied for 6th in the SEC last year and tied for 7th in the SEC (right beside Vandy) this season...

That's considered success for the Aggies. Just look at their history. Their best run by far in the late 80s and early 90s ended with NCAA sanctions including a TV/Bowl ban. The ONLY time they've won consistently was when they were cheating. Documented and punished cheating, not just rumors.

Might sound crazy, but if Kirby left then I suspect that the best odds are that either Muschamp or Pruitt get the job.

I know with the latter there would have to be some slight mending of the bridges, but likely nothing that couldn't be worked around. And as for Muschamp, once he flames out for good at Florida due to his Shula-inspired offenses, odds are better that he ends up as a DC at a top program than as a HC of a smaller program. He'd certainly make more money that way...

I was under the impression that it would take a good bit more than "slight mending" ...

I don't see a path for CKS to get the Texas job, given the delusions of grandeur that reign supreme there. However, I don't think they'll get any of their fantasy wishes among the college coach (Jimbo, Malzahn, Miles, etc.) or the pros (Harbaugh 1, Harbaugh 2, Pete Carroll, Tomlin, etc.). I think their realistic list has to have Jim Mora Jr, James Franklin, Briles, Mike Gundy, Dabo, and maybe a few others. There a few B-list NFL guys like Mike Shanahan and Jack Del Rio that might give them a look. I could be wrong, but--Texas being Texas and all--I just don't see them going for a career college assistant like CKS, though I would hire him over at least 75% of the rest of those guys.

I'll just state affirmatively now that, given Muschamp's fairly epic flop in Gainesville, the odds of Kirby getting the Texas job are zero. I'll gladly eat crow for Christmas dinner if I'm wrong.

"Orange is probably the most rejected and under-used color of our time. However, young people do respond well to it as it has a degree of youthful impulsiveness to it."

"Orange offers emotional strength in difficult times. It helps us to bounce back from disappointments and despair, assisting in recovery from grief."
I don't like orange at all! However, I will say that Burnt Orange is much, much more tolerable than that horrendous, road-side garbage pick-up orange that UTe (Tenercee for those Texas, UTw, folks) wears!

Instead of crow, how about that eagle down at the Barn.

TAMU: Keeps coach, gives nice pay raise. Success.
UTw: Finally manages to run off unpopular winning coach. Success!

Re: New Discussion Thread on Possible Coaching Changes...

Don't get me wrong. I like Kevin Sumlin's career projection. He's been wildly successful in his young career. He's going to prove himself as something more than just the guy who inherited Johnny Manziel. Still, he ascended into a pay grade greater than coaches who have won multiple conference titles and at least one national title. He has neither.

TAMU greatly overpaid the guy but perhaps they're high on him like me.

Re: New Discussion Thread on Possible Coaching Changes...

I just saw where Malzahn reiterated his commitment to Awbun....

Texas is like that nice looking girl we've all known - she's nice looking and SHOULD be able to date whoever she chooses, but she doesn't have enough HEALTHY respect for herself, she's a total mess - a total train wreck with her life and she's treated nice guys with disrespect. She's burned enough bridges for all to see and knows that nice, handsome guys don't want to take a chance on her and she's to the point where she's just throwing herself at ANYONE...but anyone with an ounce of desirability isn't interested.

That's Texas right now.
