Drop 1941 (9-2) for 1945 (10-0). Bama was awarded the National Championship in 1945 by the "National Championship Foundation". Undefeated and Rose Bowl champion over USC. Closest game was an 18 point win over Tennessee. Bama finished 2nd in the AP poll to Army. That keeps Frank Thomas with three national championships.

Just to tick off rival fans, I think we not only should claim 1941, but should also claim 2005, 1993, and a few others just for the heck of it.
Of course, after winning so many championships, it just gets hard to keep count.

Championships were awarded by someone. Should we disavow the ones bestowing the championship? NO!
Just because they were in another era before the current method was in use doesn't invalidate them.
Should we disavow horses (The other 'Red Meat'...) because they predated automobiles?

I don't really see the point in claiming these national titles that were awarded by publications/organizations that no one has ever heard of/cares about.

Honestly, I would just rather see Alabama claim its 9 poll titles (1961, 1964, 1965, 1973, 1978, 1979, 1992, 2009, and 2011) and mention the Rose Bowl teams somewhere (1925, 1926, 1930, and 1934).

If we won the title in 41 we won the title. It's ours forever. It's not up to me to decide whether we should claim it or not.

In 66 and 77 we should have won it and didn't. It doesn't matter what I think about it, the fact is we didn't win it. Me wanting to claim it is moot. Is it "questionable" that we didn't win it? Absolutely. Don't make a bit of difference. We didn't. They did. It's in the record books.

So I'm not about to disavow a title just because it was one that might possibly be considered a bit questionable.
Not for one single second.

I respectfully do not agree at all. The way they did it back then wasn't the way they do it now but that doesn't mean that, at the time, it was wrong. That would be like asking Army and the Notre Dame Rockne teams to give up the titles they earned back then as well and that's just not good for college football history and tradition.

Actually, Bama had more Selectors award their NC to them in 1966 and 1977 than 1941. Six (ARGH Power Ratings, Cliff Morgan, Clyde Berryman, Earl Jessen, National Championship Foundation, Soren Sorensen) in 1966. Two (Bob Kirlin, College Football Researchers Association) in 1977. One (Houlgate System) in 1941.

Threads like this bother me because I wonder to myself, "With all the positives going on with Bama football right now in 2012 why in the world would we feel the need to discuss something so negative as to whether we should disavow a national championship we won 71 years ago?"

I mean maybe I need someone to explain to me these questions, "What positive and useful purpose does this thread serve?" "How does it benefit anybody involved with Alabama football in any way whatsoever?"..and finally "Are you kidding me?"

Im doubtful any of the guys on that '41 team are still around but if they were I sure wouldn't tell them their championship was undeserved.
You get my drift completely. Why in the world are we discussing this? Those guys won what they won at the time they won it and in the way it was determined back then. 71 years later I am almost appalled that Bama fans, of all people, are discussing whether they deserved it or not.
I just wonder how those guys would feel if they could read all his crap. I'm just amazed.
