Newton, who is skipping his senior year to enter the NFL draft, said his legacy at Auburn should go something like this:
"Here's a young man that was very resilient, and left it all out there on the field. I tried to be the best. Any athlete that is a competitor doesn't play the game just to play the game. I played ... to try to be the best."

I just saw CN's above quote as to how he wants to be remembered at the barn. He won the Heisman and led the barn to a 14-0 record this season in less than his one year on the plains. Regardless of whether those records stand, I wouldn't trade him for GM's contributions to the University of Alabama on, or off, the field this last year. CN has been a national embarrassment to auburn and to anyone with an IQ above room temperature and living outside of area code #334. He brought a record of lying, cheating, stealing and a total self centered attitude to a pathetic, desperate group of supporters that called him a hero. It was a perfect match. He most likely never attended a class this last semester. His primary contact with the student body was jumping into the stands where they adored him. Based on his above self proclaimed legacy he totally ignores the accomplishments of the "team". He only used them to carry him around on their shoulders after games. His published interview stating he "missed his preferred choice of being in Florida" was accepted by those who worshipped him on the plains. Only an idiot would accept the explanation that he didn't know of his father's pfp scheme. Regardless, anyone who thinks he found his dad in the stands immediately after the MNC game without foreknowledge of his locations is completely foolish. His final exit on the football field to embrace his dad at the game was at best an slap in the face to the "mutally agreed upon" understanding with aburn. CN understood the concept of "all in" and aubrun seemed to love it.

GM meanwhile was leading our program with class and dignity. He was working on his masters having graduated with his undergraduate degree in three years. He was selected a finalist as Rhodes Scholar. He, and his parents, made numerous contributions to the University and community. How deeply did GM love the University of Alabama?....his younger sister from Texas will start classes this fall. God bless GM for what he has given us. I wouldn't trade it for another MNC or another Heisman trophy and I surely wouldn't trade him for CN.

GM added to the proud Tradition that is uniquely the University of Alabama. CN only added more trash to the ever growing pile of cr** that aubrun seems to be so comfortable living in. Both of us got exactly what we deserved.

bamabelle,
Anyone who wants to reproduce or use the above comments has my approval. I could have added considerably more specific accomplishments of GM and what he has given to the University and community. In addition to winning numerous academic awards such as SEC Scholar athlete of the year, I expect him to win even more prestigious awards later in the spring when the UA Athletic Department has their academic and community service awards banquet. He will be a great alumnus and representative of the University of Alabama. Students, faculty, fans, alumni, parents, kids, and grandkids will be proud of him for years to come.

Newton not even close to being anywhere near Greg...I feel bad even putting them in the same sentance. For Newton it was never about barn it was always about him, for Greg it was all about being a part of Bama!

This thread is based on a pretty much rhetorical question that we all know the answer to.
It all depends on whether you want a selfless leader.....

Or some clown that seems to only be a cheerleader for himself...

There's no contest. GMac all the way....

I have some Awburn friends just gushing over Cam Newton on facebook, talking about how "special" he is. I couldn't help but think that he was kicked out of UF for stealing and cheating, what a role model.

Is that a picture of $Cam leading the Barn cheerleaders...that is so him. $Cam doesn't hold a candle, flame, match or anything else to GMac. That scum bag doesn't belong on the same page or in the same book for that matter with GMac. Yeah, $Cams special alright, so special he probably took the short bus to school.

Neither one of these two players will have long careers as Quarterbacks in the NFL, and here's why:

In the NFL, the QB has to be the hardest working, smartest guy on the field with the physical skills to play the game. As for $cam, while is a physically gifted freak of a QB, I don't think he has the mental brilliance or the work ethic to be successful. He doesn't seem like the guy who is the first one in the tape room or the last one to leave the field. He's got the phyz, but not the jizz.

As for GMAC, here's a guy with the work ethic and smarts, but not quite the phyz. He'll work hard, study hard and learn everything he needs to to be a good QB, but his stuff is just not there.

Look at all the great QB's of the league. Montana. Marino. Fouts. Anderson. Aikman. Roethlisberger. Brees. Manning x 2. Brady. Rodgers and now Cutler. Those guys are extremely smart, and every one of their team members said (or will say) that they were the hardest working guys on the team and had the physical skills to be a great NFL QB.

I don't see $cam getting up at 5:00 am and ending his day at 11:00 pm. And I don't see him learning what he needs to, even if I'm wrong on the above.

I do see GMAC doing that, and I see him getting it all. But I don't see him with the physical abilities that the guys I listed show the game.

GMAC is headed for a coaching or front office job. $cam is headed for such oblivion that it would make JaMarcus Russell and Ryan Leaf say, "Thank GOD for that guy."

I concur GCT.
GMAC will be like J.Russell unless his daddy keeps him in check. But with all that money, yeah he is a risk to be consistent. I can see GMAC being a great practice squad QB and helping the defense prepare for opposing offenses. He might actually get a shot much like Jeff Rutledge did for the Giants and Skins of yester-year. My instinct says the kid has a future in broadcasting, marketing, etc. But he ain't nothing but a winner and who knows, he may surprise us?

Sadly $cam's preacher father isn't much better than the son. Values have been lost for a few generations. Not sure what Cecil Newton preaches but its not the word its money from the highest donor if he could get it. History will show the embarrassment that is Auburn. $Cam Newton will not be remembered by college football as something special he will be viewed as the blemish on its so called tradition.

Has McElroy made his plans known? Is he headed to graduate school? Bama Irishman, I agree, Scam's role model doesn't seem to be a good one. He's also never had to learn about the actions/consequences link. That's why I say.....trouble. He's one big walkin' load o' trouble.
