What happens to our kickers?

Hope AG has a great year and career. But he uses a 4 step drop on his long field goals and might have to try the 2 step. My son uses a 2/ 2 1/2 and does fine.
Just watched his Camp film again and he seems to use a 4 step move on all his kicks. Wonder what effect changing his steps would have? I do notice from watching his High School kicking that he gets the ball up quick and high, so blocks might not be a big problem. (Im assuming that blocks was the reason for this comment?) In watching Shelley, he seems to take 3 steps for all his kicks?

I'm not sure how the kickers are coached within our program. But I know the impact of a good FG, kick-off man, punter and field position. Look no further than LSU 2011. WOW! It can set the stage to change the direction and flow of a game. Our defense is able to be a lot more agressive when an opposing offense begins at their own 20 yd line rather than their 35-40 yd line.
Buzzard, I may be wrong but I honestly don't think we have a kicking coach.

I think earlier in Saban's tenure that Cade to LB would've been an option. Not necessarily a starter, mind you. But we continued to seek players for the SAM. But at this point it's not really feasible. I just didn't know how highly he was regarded as a LB recruit coming out of HS. He's definately built more like a LB than a kicker.
He may get a shot at strong safety if he has any speed. OR, they may beef him up and make him a Corey Reamer type.

I think he'll stick with us and we'll stick with him regardless.

I really don't know, but I can't see how we can keep 2 Kickers on Scholarship along with a punter. Shelley seems to be a walk-on and a senior, but if the new kicker can show he has it, I can't see that we could be wise to keep so many kickers.

I believe there is no kicking coach, but there is a GA and other staff who monitor kickers through a rather excruciating regimen in practice and beyond. Anyone who thinks kickers in 2011 were undercoached is very wrong. I posted once before that a former UA kicker told me that, if anything, it's possible they work a bit too much before games and could have "dead leg" at gametime. I have no idea the validity of that, but if I heard it then I guarantee CNS has. I do really look forward to AG and CF competing and I feel confident the result will be great.

this may well be prob. If one simply practices does one get better? I think not, it's having someone who knows what the player should be doing and how to change and tweak the steps, and other techniques that would help. I have heard that the school cant send the specialists to kicking camps (altho, the specialists can go on their own dime) but could the school hire a consultant to come in for a few days to instruct the special teams coach/GA and maybe the specialists? Not sure what is wrong, but something needs to change. For a program like Bama to have such problems in special teams... just doesn't make sense????
