Re: TI Reporting Tyren Jones Has Committed To Alabama

Jones is on pace to break the Georgia HS all- time rushing record. Playing at the highest football classification in Ga. to boot!!

Walton along with 7 other Georgia HS in the same league were listed as the best HS classification in the country by Rivals.

BTW his team mate and good friend said Jones decision will be a factor for him and already has UA as one of his early favorites. He said Jones called him right after he commited and was already recruiting him.

Brandon Kublanow is a 4 star OL(projected as aguard)

pretty impressive highlight videos
The kid can turn on a dime. Very very sharp cut, and good speed.
We're running back U.

Big pick-up here and you can consider me surprised that we landed this one. With Yeldon, Hart, and Tenpenny in the fold I didn't see another back of Jones' caliber coming to 'Bama in this class, so lots of credit is in order to the staff on this one.

As a prospect, Jones looks big-time. This kid looks a lot like Mark Ingram did in Flint, and if he can add 10-20 pounds to his frame he's going to be an outstanding player for us. We've done extremely well with low center of gravity backs with strong power bases and open field quickness and that is exactly the kind of prospect we have in Jones. If he, Tenpenny, and Yeldon can all stay healthy and out of trouble, we're going to be stacked at tailback for years to come.

As for the talk of adding three backs, I previously thought we'd add Tenpenny and then a combo guy like Kenyan Drake who could project to a lot of positions. With the third back, if that happens, I again expect it will be of the combo type. There is just no real reason for us to add another every-down tailback prospect at this point. We're basically as deep as we can possibly get at tailback now given the overall scholarship limits.

On the downside, though, I do worry about what this says about Dee Hart's recovery. Also, I think you can probably forget about Kenyan Drake ending up at tailback at this point, he's probably going to receiver or DB. Calloway, too, is headed out from the backfield, though that was expected before this.

Also, picking up Tenpenny and Jones really brings the long-term wisdom of Blake Sims at tailback into question. We've got to figure out something to do with that kid, and tailback doesn't look to be it. Sometimes I can't help but wonder if we should have just stuck him at corner when he first arrived.

I was afraid of this.

That's exactly what I thought. Cuts on a dime and looks like he may even be a little shiftier and faster than Ingram. What a great pickup. He and Tenpenny should really be punishing teams in a couple years.

My exact first thought when I saw his video. I'm not sure I have seen more 60-80 yard runs on a highlight video. The RB depth is sick and I have to think Kenyan Drake will not start at RB now. One poster said they heard a quote we would be taking 3 RB's in this class but that just seems like too many with the depth we have at this position. Very excited about this guy and RTR Tyren.

Again, regarding a possible third tailback, if that happens I think you'll see us sign a combo guy who will likely project elsewhere. Keep in mind that depending on the build a "tailback" signee could easily end up at wide receiver, H-back, linebacker, corner, or safety.

Guys like Tenpenny, Yeldon, and Jones are tailback-only types that can feasibly play only one position. I'd be shocked if you see us sign another kid like that. We might, though, see another "tailback" like Chris Jordan, Christion Jones, or Kenyon Drake.

With Fowler being a JR. and Justin Taylor signing with Kentucky I think CNS wants a power back/fullback type RB.

I agree that was the 1st thing I thought when I heard that. I would not mind seeing a Upchurch type of back. One with great hands catching the ball and making nice plays.

We’ll see, but I would it.

The “problem” we have with the power / fullback types – and this has been a big reason why Fowler has seen the field so little – is that the every-down tailbacks we have are big, physical runners in their own right, and they can more than hold their own in-between the tackles and in short-yardage situations. Given that, there is no real need for a short-yardage, interior power specialist.

After all, why insert a player like that into the game to grind out the tough yards? It's 3rd and 2, why bench a guy like Richardson to put Fowler in the game? In reality, all you are doing is eliminating the explosive ability that could otherwise be on the field with your every-down back, so you greatly reduce the chances of generating the big play while at the same time slightly (if at all) increasing the chances of the short-yardage conversion.

It’s a just signee that addresses something that is not a real need for us. We could have used a guy like that under Shula and in 2007, but on the current squad it's probably going to be a wasted spot more than anything else. I might be wrong, but I would think we would use that spot somewhere else on the roster.

I really like this kids ability to cut quickly to the hole. In our offense it's critical that the back be able to do so.

I'm sure it's probably posted already but here's a good video of him. Amazing to me.

Welcome Tyren! Roll Tide!!! Sometimes I wish UA could field 2 football teams. It seems we have the talent to have 2 teams end up in the top 10 every year. More = better!

When ESPN did our A-Day game a couple of years ago one of the announcers said Alabama is in his top 5. Both the White and Red team!

Watching his video, he reminds me of Jacquizz Rogers. Small but thick,, more quick than track speed fast, good lateral movement, looks to cut upfield rather than juke, versatile, hard runner who drops his head and takes on contact some.

Only other guy I can think of might be Fozzy WhitTaker from Texas. He is bigger than a Jeff Demps or Chris Rainey and isn't afraid to use his pads, but won't outrun a Dee Milliner.

I think Kenyon Drake will really have a hard time getting PT as a 3 down tailback with Hart, Yeldon, Tenpenny, and Jones on the roster. I would redefine Drake as an ATH now. Guys like Jones are born to play tailback.

I like it.
