Question: AJ McCarron, Receivers vs Bulldog Secondary

It's a flip from last weekend. They do have great corners and I believe it will be up to AJ to establish Bama this weekend. We have the receivers to match up and I think the O-line has progressed well on the protection. Bell a d Norwood along with Jones are still dangerous and with Cooper coming into his own right now things look good. This will be a real test for them. What do you think? Roll Tide!!

MSU CB Banks injured a knee in their last game at MTSU. I hope he will be able to play as he is a very good player and I want the Tide to beat the best. Not that I think MSU's Coach Mullen will do a Texas' Mack Brown who continues to cry the poor me's over McCoy's injury.

I honestly believe that no one can really force us to do anything we dont want to do on offense aside from possibly LSU. I think MSU has had a very easy schedule and has struggled at times whereas we have called a blowout win over Ole miss the only close game. We walk away with 5 TDs no matter what they do, i just dont see them lining up against our line or being able to stop cooper, norwood, and Bell enough to even stand a chance.

we might not play that hard as long as we can walk away with a W and no one get hurt or beat up.
LSU is coming off from a bye and we have to take care of the business.

I don't care, if they can't stop our run game. Can they?
Doubtful - they're allowing 139YPG thus far having not played anyone with a serious rushing attack. We're undefeated under CNS (something like 42-0) when we rush for 150+ yards...
Code:
Team: Rush ranking: YPG avg: YPG vs MSU:
Jackson State: FCS 180.75 109
Auburn: 97th 122.29 91
Troy: 58th 167.71 223
South Alabama: Provisional 130.71 123
Kentucky: 100th 119.25 84
ut: 57th 168.43 213
MTSU: 43rd 186.29 131
Alabama: 20th 219.43 ___
MSU's first seven opponents have an overall average of 153 YPG rushing, MSU has allowed an overall average of 139 YPG, which means they've held the opposing teams, on average, to ~91% of their rushing average. Assuming they can do this to Alabama (which as - by far - the most potent rushing offense they've seen to date), we still rush for ~200 yards. We don't lose if we rush for 200 yards.

IOW, they aren't stopping this offense.

Their DLine is down considerably from the last few years, we should be able to run on them better than we have in a while. Banks is their only truly elite defender. He's a future 1st rounder. Broomfield is a potential mid-round guy, and the jury's still out on Slay. Their secondary is good, but nowhere near the best we'll see this year.

To me, MSU has done what's expected of them and that's win. I'm wondering if they'll put up more of a fight than LSU. I just think AJ really comes out in this game. Just my two cents though...

We run the ball and continue to run it until their defense makes a mistake and AJ makes them pay for it.
Our deep threat passing that we showed against the Vols has got to have their DC nervous. Honestly, Cooper has turned into such a threat going vertical that you almost have to commit a Safety over the top on him. That will of course benefit our running game who I predict will have another 200+ yard day. Bama should win this by 14+.

I think this game will be fairly close for the first half, but our depth will become a major factor as the game wears on. I think we will win, but maybe not as great a margin as our previous games this year. One thing really bothers me though. State has always played us a real tough physical game, and I am worried about getting people hurt in this one. Its just that they always seem to inflict some damage to some of our guys, and that could haunt us against LSU. I'm not saying State plays dirty, but they hit hard and history has proven we come out of this game with some gimpy players. Hope that is not the case this year.

I agree.

With a healthy Banks I believe this is the best secondary we have seen so far. I don't see us getting recievers with no defenders within 10 yards like last week. This should be another close game for a couple of quarters and pull away late in the third. I am a little worried about keeping focus for the next three games, but NOWHERE near how I used to get.

This will not be a "trap game". MSU is undefeated and ranked #11 in the nation. If MSU had 3-4 wins going into this game, I could see Bama looking ahead to lsu. Bama will not be looking ahead...they will be focused and impose their will on MSU and win 42-10. Bama backups in in 4th quarter.

If MSU comes in as cocky as many of their fans are right now, we really could smash them in the mouth and run away with this game. I sure hope that is the case, and it doesn't become the trap game that some of us fear. RTR!

Exactly, no looking ahead on this one. It can be a statement game for AJ again, since all we hear about is MSU's secondary. This will be our first game home in almost a month, the boys are pumped up to play for the crowd. I am more worried after an emotional win at lsu, to come home and play a&m.

huh? care to rephrase that? If you don't play hard vs MSU , or any team, Bama will have a 1 in the loss column, and injuries will happen . besides, the process doesn't allow taking it easy.

I agree with Crimson Speed. But wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't close the 1st 3 qtrs. Quality depth will have us up by 21 pts in the 4th qtr.
