Steady trade opens Keeneland September Yearling sale

With many of the usual suspects shopping at the top end, some lingering spottiness in the market showed up as the average and median improved over the corresponding 2015 figures while the gross of $34,531,000 generated by 108 horses sold was down 28 percent compared to the $44,642,000 yielded by 150 sold last year.

Better together: Trainer Brown, Grade I winner Flintshire fueling each other’s best seasons

One could argue trainer Chad Brown has found a kindred spirit in the form of his multiple Grade I-winning charge Flintshire. While each has had wildly successful results prior to this year, the 2016 season could lead each to some year-end hardware — cases that figure to be strengthened when Flintshire starts in the $600,000, 1 ½-mile Joe Hirsch Turf Classic, one of eight Grade I races taking place between Belmont and Santa Anita this weekend.
