Why has our offense been so inconsistent recently?

To me, our offense seems like a sports car with some loose plug wires. When they make contact, we're cranking away, but when they don't, the engine sputters?

Teams have found away to confuse it with quick personnel changes? Seems like very since Coach Saban commented on the no huddle, team have been quickening the pace on us.
LSU had a up temp game plan that probably had the first two series set.

Hope this is not a new trend. Someone with a little more precise knowledge can comment of the faster temp getting the ball of and player substitutions.

AJ was just off target last week. This week they could not get a rhythm and maybe it;s partially due to playing from behind and not feeding off the defense like they always could do.

Not doing what Bama does best. Running to setup the pass. The running game was abandoned during critical stretches this week and last. It happened in '10 when McEllroy was Qb also.

Our offense isn't that complex to defend. It's not like the spread or the hurry up offenses that neutralize the defenses' strengths. Bama plays old school football to line up and beat the opponent. If the opposition has the players and scheme, they can beat Bama. There's a reason not many teams don't run Bama's offense. The other style offenses cheapen the game IMO. Just line up and beat your man. Instead, these teams want to run offenses that spread a defense out to weaken the defense.

For whatever reason (probably injuries), AJ has been off target the last two weeks and the play calling isn't taking that into account.
Knee and back injuries may be causing over compensation with the arm, which could lead to in accurate throws.

Somebody said it in another thread. Our style works best when we are playing with a lead and when the defense can play riskier.

When we have a lead we can take a few more chances to disrupt the opposing offense's game plan.

I really think our defensive struggles...even again TAM is mostly due to the offense not playing as they did earlier this year.

Before LSU, we were averaging almost 40 points a game. The last two games we are averaging 22.5 a game. Anybody see how this puts our defense in to playing a little more "not to give up the big play" instead of being able to be more aggressive?

In both the LSU and TAM games, we struggled with 3 and outs at times when a sustained drive would have cooled off the opposing teams offense and might have added a few points to the scoreboard on our side as well.

As others have noted, AJ for whatever reason (probably due to injury or the stress of the streak of no INTS) has not been the same. Couple that with some questionable play calling and that is why we are discussing this.

When this offense is physically superior, no problem. When the matchup gets closer, the lack of imagination comes to light. No reason why Alabama couldn't do what Oregon does, but allow less points because of a superior defense.

Because our play calling is terrible. I blame the loss last night and the almost loss against LSU completely on the coaching staff and the way our offensive plays were called. We could run the ball down the throat of both teams but we chose for some reason not to do so.

Maybe AJ is not 100% but who is at this point in the season...AC missed practice time with an ankle injury the week of LSU so their timing had to suffer. Saturday, we had too many mistakes both physical and mental types and thats why we lost. We outgained TAM even though they won the time possession battle. This is the same coaching staff that put together that flawless drive against LSU so I find it hard to believe that they forgot how to breakdown a defense within a weeks timeframe. We didn't play well enough on that day to win, congrats to TAM. We will be fine, on both sides of the ball and as a team overall.

Combination of some injured players, having been pushed out of our game plan two weeks in a row, and to some degree the offensive coordinator is still learning about life in the SEC. McElwain had to go through that process as well. They just got to work through it.

I understand what you're saying..I don't agree that it cheapens the game..That's the point of the spread..It tires out the D trying to stop it..It's up to our coaches & players to adjust to it to stop it..JMO

because we have stopped running the ball and lost our balance on offense. Against LSU Yeldon and Lacy both averaged over 7 yards per carry in the first half but we stopped giving them the ball in the second half.
Saturday we were very effective straight up the gut and absolutely almost stopped completely again.
For our passing game to be effective we have to be able to run play action passes. Unless we've actually been running the ball it doesn't work.
Sometimes I think we out smart ourselves. Let's get back to what we do best and we'll be fine.
Let's put it this way, how many times have you ever heard an opposing coach say, "We have to somehow stop McCarron?"
No..they say, "To beat Bama we have to stop their running game."
Lately they haven't had to because we've made it easy for them by not running the rock.

But this was not SEC that he was dealing with. This was more Big12.
