Now we know why he interviewed so he could find out how bad the NCAA was going to hit the barn, ha!That's just what's floating right now. Apparently part of Kirby's hang up was with the impending NCAA investigation an AU not wanting to be forthcoming about how extensive it is. This may be nothing more than a rumor or a straight lie but it came through a reliable enough medium that I thought I would pass it on.
People within the Auburn athletic department, and those close to candidate Kirby Smart at Alabama, confirmed the university's decision. Smart was told Auburn had chosen Malzhan. AStateNation.com, a website that covers Arkansas State, reported that Malzhan would be Auburn's new coach.
most people think that the UT people are scared of hiring Saban assistants right now as Sunseri was a considered a flop and Dooley got there because of his history with Saban and his daddy's name.Is Smart a candidate for the UT job that is the only SEC spot left open just wondering.
LOL, I would bet dollars to donuts that Smart said "thanks, but no thanks." Not the other way around.http://www.al.com/auburnfootball/index.ssf/2012/12/auburn_naming_gus_malzhan_head.html
It is Malzhan to Auburn

Me neither, until Johnny Manziel walked into Bryant Denny. Gus caused us big problems in two of the three games he coached against us. If he can recruit the players he needs, he'll cause us more problems in the future.Heh, does Gus scare any of you guys?
Not me. :biggrin2:
I'm giddy about the hire, personally.Heh, does Gus scare any of you guys?

One game he caught us off guard. Another game he caught lightning in a bottle named Cam. Unless, he can recruit, nope not scared.Me neither, until Johnny Manziel walked into Bryant Denny. We've figured out Malzaan. I'm not worried. Unless he can coach defense, which he can't, it doesn't bother me.Me neither, until Johnny Manziel walked into Bryant Denny. No, not for a second. Auburn is in shambles, and that ain't getting rebuilt any time soon with what surrounds them (Alabama in mid-dynasty, Georgia's well established coach and recruiting, Muschamp turning around Florida, LSU's recruiting dominance). He's got a long haul ahead of him to even get the barn back to average.Heh, does Gus scare any of you guys?
Not me. :biggrin2:
Recruiting is everything, sure. But Gus move the ball against us in two-thirds of his opportunities. The first year he had a Division II quarterback and they led until the last minute. The second, with Cam, they accomplished the impossible. We've shown this year that we are vulnerable to the spread. When Texas A&M beat us, Gus became a credible option at AU.One game he caught us off guard. Another game he caught lightning in a bottle named Cam. Unless, he can recruit, nope not scared.
