John Curtis has been named national champion of the MaxPreps Xcellent 25, and the National Prep Football Poll released by PrepNation.
Curtis, which defeated Evangel 35-13 in the Class 2A state championship game, is expected also to be crowned national champion by RivalsHigh.com, USA TODAY, and FOX Sports Next later on Monday.

Meanwhile, the national championship becomes the crown jewel in an already stellar career for J.T. Curtis, whose resume includes 520 victories and 25 state championships.

Awarding a "national championship" in high school football (or any sport) is silly. There is no real way to compare teams from across the country that don't play each other and have no common opponents.

Congratulations to these kids for a great season and winning their state title, but that's as far as it should go.
