UGA's Jenkins ineligible for their bowl

Georgia senior nose guard John Jenkins didn't meet academic requirements and won't be eligible to play against Nebraska in the Capital One Bowl.

Jenkins, projected as a first-round NFL draft pick, missed practice earlier this month with a concussion, but coach Mark Richt told reporters Wednesday when the team arrived in Orlando that Jenkins would not be playing in the game for academic reasons.
Sounds like he gave up on the team after they lost the SECCG because he was going pro either way in April.

Wow. Did he really stop going to class after the loss in the SECCG? If he did that's a major character flaw if you ask me. He'll probably still be a first round pick but that's a crappy way to go out if that's what happened.

the uga players respect a no-nonsense coach like richt who leads from the front and year after year produces a fine group of young men ready to face life's challenges. /

Wow. Guess UGA didn't decide to postpone grades being finalized until after their bowl...like that one team did that year they went to Tempe.

this is just another example of how mark richt has no control over his team. year after year, you see players having off the field issues, academic issues etc. richt can make all the excuses he wants, the evidence is speaks for itself.

Perhaps, but I do respect the fact that he at least will suspend his best players when they've crossed the line. That's more than coaches on the plains or in Baton Rouge can claim.
