He would say "Katie bar the door" when Bama took a commanding lead.

He talked about the '79 Sugar Bowl. After the famous goal line stand, we had to punt and our P shanked it, "setting Penn State up on the doorstep." He saw the official counting PSU players and counting to 12. On the second shot, the punt went 54 yards, "and Penn State never saw the goal line again." I attended that game as a student and I had forgotten that!

He mentioned that in the weeks leading up to the '93 Sugar Bowl, "Bebes" told him over and over "We're gonna whup 'em."

He was asked about Johnny Manziel and said he was "astounding" and "remarkable". When he first saw him, he said, "He can't be a freshman!"

He did say he was concerned about the growing costs of athletic departments, "even for the smaller guys."

His voice was clear and he was sounding well-connected with football. Like I said, I hope to sound that good next year, much less in about 30!

Big A Re: Favorite "Keith Jackson" broadcast quote from a Bama game.

I recall during the '93 Sugar Bowl KJ saying something like "Running on this Alabama defense is about as much fun as climbing a cactus". I grew up listening to Keith Jackson and still think he's the best there ever was on TV. The 1979 Sugar Bowl vs Penn State was another memorable one...he called out Don McNeal's great stop at the goal line as "one whale of a play" or something like that...classic stuff.

Raj: Excuse me, I can't be drinking, I'm about to make an important scientific discovery here!
Howard:What? Galileo did his best work while drinking wine!
Raj: How do you know that?
Howard: He was Italian, it's a reasonable assumption.
Raj: Dude, can you even open your mouth without saying a cultural stereotype?
Howard: I'm sorry Galileo drank diet sprite!

When Teague got the pick 6 he said “I think I heard the door slam.”

I think that Keith Jackson is one of the very few media personalities that no one dislikes.

When Patti Rawlinson was cheerleading I think one or more of the cameramen had a crush on her cause she kept showing up during every break in the game. Keith Jackson made a remark about the camera spending a little too much time on a cheerleader.

Nobody said, "Touchdowwwn Alllaaabama" like Mr. Jackson! I think "Whoa Nellie" went without saying.

"Whoa Nellie!" - Yankee here, and absolutely loved KJ! Man, I wish he was still doing Bama games!

One that tickled my funny bone was in the 78 Nebraska game. A Bama player (I forget who) had torn his jersey and because of a new rule that year had to come out of the game to get a new one. KJ noted that CPB used to plan for such things "by sticking extra jerseys in the offensive linemens' britches." He had a way with words!

"Well these offensive linemen for the Hurricanes are not used to be treated this way."
