McCarron centerpiece of '13 offense-TideSports

The offensive and defensive lines will need retooling, and there are a few players who might soon declare for early NFL Draft entry. But the centerpiece of the University of Alabama offense and two consecutive brilliant performances in BCS championship games, quarterback AJ McCarron, sees plenty to be excited about around him for 2013.

It was a small moment, and even with more than 100 reporters in the room, most of them might've missed it. The morning after every BCS National Championship Game, the winning coach appears at one last news conference, but before he takes any questions, he officially accepts each of the four major national championship trophies. The Associated Press trophy comes first, followed by the National Football Foundation, the Football Writers Association and then the coaches trophy, which is the one with the crystal football on top. But Tuesday morning, about 10 hours after beating Notre Dame 42-14 in the BCS game, Alabama coach Nick Saban broke protocol. He quietly asked if the Crimson Tide athletics director Mal Moore could join him on the little stage.

Some of them couldn't wait to become defending champions. Nine rookies are expected to join the Alabama Crimson Tide in Tuscaloosa for the spring semester: six recent high school graduates, one junior college prospect, one prep school prospect and another who gave up the dream of professional baseball for a shot at football. National signing day is four weeks away and the 2012 class is already one-third full.

Well, Nick Saban and his gang of future NFL ballers proved to us once again that it is indeed Alabama's world, after claiming their second consecutive national title and third in four years Monday night. That ringing in your ears is just the sound of "Roll Tide" being repeated over and over in your head. I've learned there's nothing we can do about it. But will 2013 bring college football a team that can really stop the Tide? I mean, REALLY stop Alabama from winning a third straight national championship? Well, ESPN's Mark Schlabach seems to believe that the road to Pasadena is paved in crimson and white, as he has Alabama No. 1 in his Way-Too-Early-Top 25 for 2013.
