In this day and age, they didnt have video chats? If the love of your life had cancer would you go see her, at least once, in the hospital? If she was in a car wreck, wouldnt you move heaven and earth to get to her?
From the Deadspin article:
Te'o talks to Lennay nightly, "going to sleep while on the phone with her," according to Sports Illustrated. "When he woke up in the morning his phone would show an eight-hour call, and he would hear Lennay breathing on the other end of the line."
SI's Pete Thamel described how Te'o would phone her in her hospital room and stay on the line with her as he slept through the night. "Her relatives told him that at her lowest points, as she fought to emerge from a coma, her breathing rate would increase at the sound of his voice," Thamel wrote.
Hope he had an unlimited calling plan, or "free nights and weekends". And he remembered to have the charger, for his cell phone, plugged in, the whole time.
If that bit doesn't set off your BS detector, nothing will.
Ah............but he is the innocent victim of a hoax. You mean this one:
Nov. 28, 2009: Te'o and Kekua meet after Stanford's 45-38 victory over Notre Dame in Palo Alto, according to the South Bend Tribune: "Their stares got pleasantly tangled, then Manti Te'o extended his hand to the stranger with a warm smile and soulful eyes." Kekua, a Stanford student, swaps phone numbers with Te'o.
Hard to be the victim, claiming it was all an on-line affair.
I can honestly say I heard none of this, until I read about it here. I live in a bubble, isolated from the blathering idiots on EPSN, and the rest of the media. I only watch ESPN when one of our games is on (FB, BB, and some baseball and softball), and turn it off the second the game ends.
Now you see why.
Ditto for the news. Can't say any more, since it is not NS. But, I'll let you guess. Seems I am not really missing anything.
Makes erasing that 39 year hole in my stomach all that much more enjoyable.
