Re: Paul Crane 2012 SEC's Legends Class

I think Jeff Rutledge won a Super Bowl, either with the Giants or the Redskins.

It obviously couldn't happen until the Barn's only NC came in 2010 since the Super Bowl began in the late 60's. For that matter, their other "title" they claim was when they were called API.

Of course, it goes without saying that the first three super bowl winning qbs where from Bama!

LB Robbie Jones was on that '86 Giants team also and was a freshman on the '79 Bama NC team.

I think we should add Ozzie for the Ravens Super Bowl winner this year since he was a very important part of it.

Didn't George Teague win one with the Cowboys?

No, he actually signed with the Cowboys after they won their Super Bowls.

Wasn't Johnny Davis on the late 70s Bama teams and the 1981 49ers?

My bad - he was on the 77 team that got robbed.

Rutledge was on the 1986 Giants; in fact he ran a key play for a first down on a fourth & one after they lined up like they would punt. He was also on the 1979 Rams who lost and I think the 1991 Redskins as well.

Bynes becomes the first Auburn Tiger from the 1957 or 2010 national championship squads to also claim a Super Bowl victory. He is just the 17th player nationally to win a BCS title, SEC championship and Super Bowl victory.

Now my question is, how many Bama players won the SEC, NAtional Championship and Superbowl? We had two just this year.

Everybody we've named. Unless this is limited to BCS.

Re: Paul Crane 2012 SEC's Legends Class

Depending upon whether or not you count freshmen who didn't play (but were on the team) on a National Championship team, we have either 14 or 15 that I can come up with:

Name (Played at Alabama) - Played in Super Bowls
    1. Joe Namath (1962-64) - III
    2. Ken Stabler (1965-67) - XI
    3. Lee Roy Jordan (1960-62) - V, VI, X
    4. Ray Perkins (1964-66) - III, V
    5. Jeff Rutledge (1975-1978) - XIV, XXI, XXVI
    6. Sherman Williams (1991-94) - XXX
    7. Steve Wright (1962-64) - I
    8. Derrick Lassic (1989-92) - XXVIII
    9. Courtney Upshaw (2008-11) - XLVII
    10. Terrence Cody (2008-09) - XLVII
    11. Paul Crane (1963-65) - III
    12. Wilbur Jackson (1971-73) - XVII
    13. Curtis McGriff (1977-79) - XXI
    14. Robbie Jones (1979-82) - XXI

    Freshmen on NC Team:
    15. Charley Hannah (1973 Fr., 1974-76) - XVIII

Also, of note, these National Championship winning Alabama players appeared in the Super Bowl but failed to get a ring:

Dwight Stephenson (1977-79) - XVII, XIX
Tony Nathan (1975-78) - XVII, XIX
Don McNeal (1977-79) - XVII, XIX
    Dennis Homan (1965-67) - V
    Brandon Deaderick (2006-09) - XLVI
Jeremiah Castille (1979-82) - XXI, XXII
    Tommy Brooker (1959-61) - I
Bob Baumhower (1973 Fr., 1974-76) - XVII, XIX

If anyone can add any players that I missed to this list, please comment and I'll be sure to add them.

Edit: Robbie Jones is listed on the official roster for 1979, so I bumped him up to the top list. I also added some additional info on the players' years at Alabama and Super Bowl appearances, as well as a list of Alabama NC winners who played in the Super Bowl without winning one.
